The ticket split with the theater is based on numerous factors and is not fixed. Early bits of a run are in the studios' favor, later in the theaters'. I worked at one 20 years ago while I was in college. I remember the manager saying they made a lot of money on Forrest Gump because when the Oscar noms came out people went to see it who hadn't before and by then they were making more than half the ticket price, while in the early run they were making only 35 cents on the dollar or so.


I went to see Desolation of Smaug and bought a soda there for the first time in a few years. It was $5!! eek Literally I can get a 2 liter bottle at Publix on a buy 1-get 1 free sale for $2 (so $1 per bottle) but this 20-something ounce cup was $5! It was 50% the ticket price!!

Won't be doing that again unless I win the Lotto.
