EMTs essentially work at what is known as the Basic Life Support Level (i.e., no invasive emergency procedures). Paramedics have a much larger scope of practice and thus work in what is known as Advanced Life Support (ALS). The big things paramedics are trained in that EMTs aren't are things like advanced pharmacology, reading and interpreting heart rhythms, being able to start IVs and intubate patients, etc. Stuff like that. smile
