Yeah..actually after flying mission #4 I realized that is exactly the way it works (as you described)..after going from ENROUTE mode to RETURN TO BASE mode if you follow the larger circle it will eventually line you up with the little circle in LANDING mode. Then..just keep the two together and it takes you right down the glide-path. Basically I guess it is the same as the cross-pointer or V-bars in the types of planes I fly (flight director types). For instance..here is the flight director in the B200 I fly..the yellow "V" bars:



Takes a bit getting used to the two circles..but I'm getting there. I also have to spend a bit of extra time interpreting the Russian HUD attitude indicator because the way the little turn symbol moves on the HUD takes a bit of getting used to.
