The COUCHMASTER Review

COUCHMASTER-Nerdytec-PC-Couch-Gaming-TraySo, I’m going to start today with a very brief story:

When I was 20 years old, I broke my computer desk. It was just an old, crappy IKEA desk that wasn’t prepared for me to trip, fall, and roll into one of its legs.  Luckily, no electronics were harmed in my ridiculous accident. At the time, I was in college, jobless, and eating way too many packs of ramen noodles, so buying a desk was out of the picture, at least for a bit. I decided to set up my lair in my apartment living room, until I could manage to get a new desk. I’m sure this is a familiar story. Well, not the whole bowling ball roll into the desk, but, at some point, most of us have tried to PC game from our couch.

Unsurprisingly, it was awkward and uncomfortable and I ended up having pillows all over the place to compensate for the ungainly angles of my keyboard and mouse. And once I was finally situated, I would inevitably get thirsty, or have to use the bathroom, or remember that I left my phone in another part of the apartment. So, I’d have to extricate myself from the growth of cords and wires only to re-situate myself once more. First world problems, I know!

Anyway, I stumbled onto this the other day and wanted to share it with you guys, because I KNOW at least one of you has been in a similar situation.

Meet… the COUCHMASTER. Cue overly dramatic introduction video:

At a glance, this bulky thing from Nerdytec looks like nothing more than a couple pillows with a board draped across. However, the COUCHMASTER is so much more. Okay, well, not A LOT more, but it definitely is pretty cool.

For starters, those pillows have pockets for stuff. Like your bottle of water, or soda, or what have you. I know I’m not the only one who saw that pocket and thought it’d make a good drink holder?

Anyway, the best thing about this incredibly geeky (yet satisfying) contraption is without a doubt the keyboard and mouse / laptop tray. Inside the tray are two hollow compartments designed specifically for cable management and attachments. The attachments come in three flavors: One to hold your phone, one to hold your tablet, and one for the “Nerdytray” – yes, it is a stylish ashtray.

The COUCHMASTER comes in five versions with multiple colors. You can buy the tray by itself, or a basic version (which is more suitable as a laptop couch desk), the pro version (wired inputs), another pro version that comes with a 4 port USB 3.0 hub, and finally the NERDTRON (Limited Edition) which is basically the pro version with a little flair. The basic version costs 99,00 EUR which is a little over $108 USD.

Okay, okay, I know this thing isn’t ground breakingly awesome, and with a little application, you could make something similar on your own, but come on… don’t tell me you don’t want one.
