Tactical Shooters

Arma 3

As reported in their blog, BIS has announced some new details, including a delay in releasing the completed version. Arma 3 will be shown at the 2012 E3Expo and Gamescom.

The Arma 3 storyline, excerpted from the official site:

"After years of intense warfare against Eastern armies, Europe has become the last stand for the battered NATO forces. On the verge of being driven into the sea, NATO command embarks upon a most desperate measure. In the hope of seizing what seems to be a well-guarded military secret, Operation Magnitude is launched. A small group of Special Forces and Researchers are sent to a Mediterranean island deep behind enemy lines. However, the mission is compromised and the task force destroyed, leaving Cpt. Scott Miller washed ashore upon the hostile island. In his effort to carry out the mission, he will face the dangers of modern warfare, an unforgiving environment, and the consequences of his own decisions..."

Some new screenshots have been released in the latest blog report, and a few of them are presented below.

Red Orchestra 2

This title came out of the gate strong, but with a ton of issues and problems. At one time we were receiving patches every other day, which is commendable for the attempt to update, but it sure makes it hard to run a server. It looks like a download pack might make it out in 2012, following the bunch of user made mods and maps that are already out. But no definite word on download pack, just Internet rumor. I tried to get an answer directly from the games official page, but no response.

Update (February 28, 2012): I received an email from Jared "Yoshiro" Creasy, Community Manager for Tripwire Interactive with some more information about Red Orchestra 2.

"I noticed in your recent article that you couldn't find information about updates coming to Red Orchestra 2. While we have been very open in the community about what is coming not everything made it to the front page, so I thought I would point you towards what is on the way.

First, we announced the new mode, Red Orchestra Classic. This mode aims to produce a more Red Orchestra 1 feel to the game as many of our fans have requested. You can find specifics about what we are starting with here. From that point we will be taking feedback from the community on how to improve it.

We also announced the new map, Mamayev. Based on the battle for Mamayev Kurgan on the outskirts on Stalingrad, it offers trench to trench, bunker to bunker long range rifle fights.

Also on the way is a Multiplayer Campaign as well as refinements to the game. You can find information on those here, here, and here.

Moving forward we are going to be testing all of these things in the public while taking their feedback and acting on it. Yesterday we released the first build of the beta with the new map Mamayev and many refinements. We'll be continuing to update the beta bringing out new functionality and additional refinements as things get done in house.

I hope that this has helped you clear up what is coming for Red Orchestra 2 in the near future. Let me know if you have any questions."

Thanks, Jared!
