Steel Fury

Of course the last tutorial is of the commander. Shows you how to give orders to your tank crew, including seek hull down position, and many others. It also shows you how to use the excellent map feature to order other vehicles and tanks, along with infantry support to points on the map, what formation, or if they should just “do as I do”. You can also call artillery or air support if available via the map. You have a few options on how to communicate with other tanks, or units. Depending on what you have, you can use your radio, telephone, or flags/hand signals.

After the tutorials you get three excellent campaigns, and a hand full of single missions, for a total of about 30 missions. The game will ship with an editor that lets you make new mission, along with tools to make new vehicles. (This was not included in the press release pre-view I received.)

Also, Steel Fury is single player only. Which is unfortunate, because this game screams multiplayer. Especially co-op multiplayer like in one tank or each with their own tank, or whatever.

System Requirements

Subject to change. These specifications, which seem quite modest, are from the press announcement:

  • OS: Windows 2000, XP, or Vista
  • CPU: 2 GHz Intel Pentium or AMD Athlon
  • RAM: 512 MB, (1 GB for Vista)
  • Video: 128 MB Direct X 9.0c compatible
  • Sound: Direct X 9 compatible
  • Hard drive space: 2 GB

In Conclusion

Pretty much, if you’re a member of SimHQ, reading this article, and have an interest in WW2 tank warfare — then this game looks to be a must have. I only have a “beta”, and the only technical problems I’ve had is that I had to disable AA to play it, as mentioned above. Gameplay is hard. This is a simulation, and the battles are real and intense. After the mission you can see your statistics and check out the battlefield with hit info and location.

If you don’t like to learn to play a game, or don’t like single player games only, then Steel Fury may not be for you. But if you do, and you get Steel Fury upon release, I expect to see a lot of great screens, videos, and after action reviews on our forums.
