I am re-reading 'The Royal Flying Corps in World War I' by Ralph Barker and this passage intrigued me:

Quote:
His determination to get photographs was only equalled by the eagerness of the Huns to prevent him, their scouts diving on him again and again, firing incendiary as well as ordinary bullets. (Often represented as being contrary to various Hague Conventions - which outlawed expanding bullets - their use was reckoned to be a cad's trick, and there were pilots, Mannock among them, who wouldn't use them, but both sides did.)

Looking in Wikipedia:
Quote:
The Pomeroy Bullet was an explosive machine gun bullet deployed specifically for use against the Zeppelin threat over Britain. The incendiary bullet, developed by New Zealand engineer John Pomeroy (1873-1950) in 1902, was quickly adopted by British defence services as a means of combating the growing German Zeppelin threat in the skies above Britain.

Filled with nitro-glycerine the bullet ignited the hydrogen gas which escaped from the tear in the Zeppelin gas bag created by the bullet's passage. The bullet's effectiveness led to a marked decrease in the number of Zeppelin attacks.

Will incendiary bullets be modelled in KotS? And will there be the option whether to use them or not? It would be interesting to see who among us are the cads! \:D

That would be a sublime goodie. It would make up for the absence of parachutes and the attendant strafing thereof. \:D

Dunkelgrun,

Here's a PDF link that gives some more info on the useage of incendiary bullets, and some examples of British (AFC) ammo belt load-outs:

http://www.awm.gov.au/cms_images/histories/9/chapters/36.pdf

Bullets like the Buckingham also traced, and for balloon work incendiary bullets were pretty much essential for effectively bring down a gas bag.

VikS, has stated there will be tracer, and mixed loadouts. Pretty sure incendiary bullets will have to be included, but it would good to know what's officially being planned, and it's a good topic for discussion Dunklegrun.

EDIT: (ah, officially TODO)

Yep, and that's what happened as the war continued.....everyone assumed the "other side" was using them, so whether officially restricted from using them against aircraft or not, all ended up using them too!

Filled with nitro-glycerine

An impact detonation then so no hammer on the machine gun. I'm thinking catapults using the spare rubber band

But seriously that sounds awfully dangerous someone could get hurt

Ah maybe the notoriously unstable nitro-glycerine soaked into a matrix of clay for materials stability why didn't someone think of that

Quote:
In 1867 he patented the product, calling it dynamite.

Ah so

The exclusion of incendrenary rounds wouldn't be a balloon buster.

So how come Spitfires and Hurricanes don't have incendiary mg rounds in 1940 are they too small to fit a charge in. Oleg's rounds are 2.4mm so not much room to pack in explosive I suppose. I said Oleg's
