Posted by: Sauron
on: 2 minutes 49 seconds ago

I once stood full upright in a cloud of projectiles generated by four M61A1's (one round even sunburning my left ear on its way past my head) long enough to make a radio call advising the enthusiastic fellows doing it that we on the ground, being on their side and all, would greatly appreciate it if they would consider stopping at their earliest possible convenience.

After that, I'm no longer afraid of anything. I've already experienced the scariest thing that could ever happen to anyone and came out of it with just a sore ear.
Problem with VHR Stock Car Racing Mod for rFactor

Posted by: Plainsman
on: 25 minutes 32 seconds ago

VHR is very, very impressive. Gorgeous graphics. nice physics, although a bit looser than I think is realistic. But here's the rub: The A.I. is just as fast at either 75% or 95%. I swear, I tested the A.I. "Difficulty" slider, starting at 95% in a race on the same track, progressively moving the slider down 2-3 points for each race. I only needed a couple of laps to tell there was no noticeable change in A.I. ability/speed until I got to the mid-70s, and the change I did see was minimal. Other rFactor mods I've tried introduce much more dramatic change from 95% to 90% to 85%. Ditto standalone racing sims like F1C, NASCAR Racing 2003 Season, GTR2, etc. Not VHR. In fact the difference between 70% - the rock bottom lowest you can move the Difficulty slide - and 95% was only slight.

VHR Stock Car RAcing could be an awesome mod if the developers could make the A.I. significantly slower at 70% compared to 95% or 100%. Before anyone says "rFactor mods are all about multiplayer," you should know that VHR Stock Car Racing not only has a complete single player mode, it comes with a complete offline VHR Racins SEASON. This is a good thing, because a lot sim gamers racing predominately offline. They just need to fix the A.I. Difficulty, so that moving the slider left or right yields significant speed changes, enabling offline sim racers to find that sweet spot that works best for them.

I Now Have An Even Healthier Respect....

Posted by: Pooch
on: 27 minutes 36 seconds ago

Richard, as soon as I think that I can take a video that won't embarrass me, I'll do that!
Really, though, my instructor, Charlie, said that I didn't do badly at all. He had me heading down the center line at Alliance, in slow flight, just a few feet off the ground the whole length of the runway, and wouldn't let me put it down. We'd go around and do it again. Fun, but when we got back, I was sweating!
Did some spins, too. A fun couple of hours, but I was working hard.
I'm not going to feel like a real pilot until I master this!
The 172 is gonna seem awful boring, now.
And yeah. RoF is as close as you're going to get, right now.

Dual boot? Win 7?

Posted by: 1qtv
on: 29 minutes 15 seconds ago

Hi,

I'm about to order a new mid-upper level pc. I'd planned on getting Windows7 64bit system until I learned that GTL won't run on a 64bit system because of starforce. That's a deal breaker. So, my question is - should I get a 32bit system? Should I get a dual boot system with Windows 7 64bit and Windows XP?

I have a lot of older games, like EECH, F4AF and I'm worried about compatibility, so XP is good, but I hate to get 4gig ram and see some of it wasted and also not be able to take advantage of future technology, so Win7 64bit is also good!

What do you think I should do?

(new system will be Core i7 860, Nvidiagtx260 with 4 gig DDR3 2000 ram, 1 Tb hdd)

Brand new system, still sucky performance

Posted by: Punisher5555
on: 33 minutes 27 seconds ago

Forgot about the hyperthreading. I have mine turned off in the BIOS. With 64bit, 4GB plus memory, and multi-core CPU's you should never need that old Intel pallor trick. That combination will crunch through pretty much anything.

I had to use the -cpucount because Arma2 would not use my second cpu and overheat CPU #1.

NoUseForAName, I have another system just like yours except it has 6GB Ram and Win7 x64. That BFG card rocks with the latest Arma2 beta and the tweaks I listed earlier. localvram is set to the 800meg of the card. You should change to the x64 Win7. World of difference.
