What game would you recomend for a role playing roll?

Jane's WWII Fighters

Posted by: Skycat
on: 11/17/09 10:37 PM

I had WWII Fighters running on a Vista system about a year and a half ago. I'll install again in the next few days and report back here.

In the meantime, I suggest that you not install to the default Program Files folder. I think (but not sure now) that the demo is timed; at the very least, it rotates between two missions and each time you start the demo you alternate between the U.S. mission and the German mission. I have a feeling that Vista's tendency to overprotect any writable files within the Program Files folder is getting in the way of your playing the demo.

Wings of Prey for PC!!!! Preorder!!!! It's IL2!!!!

Posted by: FlyingMonkey
on: 11/12/09 04:01 PM

I agree with several comments here: it's great to hear that the Battle of Britain and Stalingrad missions are going to have take-off included. You're going in the good direction, but there's still some way to go before "it's IL2".

What about landing? Do we land at the end of all BoB and Stalingrad missions? It's a really important part. Sometime you've got to drag a plane that's got more holes than lift surface, a fuel leak, a dying engine... it's a huge part of the fun to fight to keep your plane airborne and bring it back in one piece, or perform the most gentle emergency landing.
It was a huge disappointment for me when I realized that with Birds of Prey - to the point that despite its brilliant execution for a lot of other parts (and on a console, quite a first), I'm like others here flying more often on the good old IL2 1946, and I'll skip WoP entirely without seeing more work done in this direction (and I'll do the same for any PS3 release)

I'll miss custom skins too, but that's less critical than the take-off /landing situation.
Nevertheless, it's good to see the sim market expanding, so I wish WoP a bright future and good luck.

Todace, any chance that these features might still change or is too far in the development now to be changed?

Günther Rall German WW 2 ace has died aged 91

Posted by: Brutal_Baron
on: 10/12/09 07:56 PM

Generalleutnant Günther Rall, who has died aged 91, was one of the few outstanding German fighter leaders to survive the Second World War; by the end of the conflict he was the third-highest-scoring fighter ace of all time with 275 aerial victories.

Rall flew against all the major Allied fighters and had a high regard for the Spitfire and the Russian Lavochkin 7, which appeared on the scene as he was leaving the Eastern Front, but he always considered the USAAF's P-51 Mustang to be supreme.

In postwar years he was one of the founding fathers of the modern German Air Force and rose to become its chief.

Read more about this news article on Rall

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituari...ther-Rall.html#
