I didn't like the original enough to even consider spending $60(!) on a video game in which the publishers decided to deliberately exclude support features that are necessary for PC online gaming...

I'll wait 'til it's $20<...

I found it to just be a bit of a hassle whenever you wanted to run a download not approved by Microsoft. Or move .exe files around or access hidden directories. I'm comfortable leaving the protection down because I generally don't run .exe files downloaded off the internet unless I have a pretty good idea of their content. Does that mean I always know what's going on and will never get a virus? No..but I'm willing to live with the slight risk. I don't have any missile launch codes on my computer or anything..so I'm not too worried..

And you're right..it might be a bad habit..but I guess we've become conditioned to it.

Good too know. Too bad I have absolutely no interest in that platform. I am however VERY interested in an updated version of Lock On. I just want the least invasive option possible.

The A-10 and Ka-50 modules are independent. They can link but they don't have to. You can buy one only and play with someone that only bought the other.

I can't wait to play a coop with Su-27 CAP, an A-10C busting things up, and a Ka-50 being a FAC with WP rockets... all players human and on the same mission!

I can certainly explore some of those options. The first I think a blanket statement of "these are sometimes older games and futzing with them will be necessary.." would apply. Most games can be run in their native resolution with black bars on the sides. I'm not planning on installing/patching/tweaking them on XP, Vista, and W7 exhaustively, but from this point forward I'll try to give an idea of which OS I'm using.

I'll throw in copy protection comments and graphics and drivers trouble - but again with the wide array of computers and configurations out there it will just be from one perspective.

I'm not aiming for an exhaustive review here, just a sim-lite series. Some of these might be $5 crap shoots (ie: I bought the Operation Air Assault 2 game for $8 and found out it was just a repackaged Longbow Assault)..

Short answer: yes.

Long answer: I wouldn't go as far to say that pressing the Trimmer button has the same effect as the Flight Director mode - they are certainly two different functions! - but your point, I believe, is that autopilot control feedback is disabled in both cases, which is absolutely true.

I agree. The speech files are the weakest point and a serious distraction most of the time. If it wasn't for the fact that occasionally, it tells me I'm being shot at, I'd turn it off.

But, still for $20 it is MORE than worth the money.
