I know there are a few people here that are at least semi-interested in tabletop gaming, and I can't seem to find any other mention of this game, so I thought I'd post this as there may be a few interested.

There's a new WW2 air combat game just come out called 'Blood red skies' by Warlord, same guys that do 'Bolt action; if anyone is familiar with that game. It's not officially released until next month but there are a few pre-release copies around, including my own, which arrived a few days ago. It's well worth a look for anyone interested in WW2 air combat and tabletop gaming.

Most information can be found at the website and on youtube and I can answer questions or give opinions if wanted.

From looking at the base box contents, I'm going to guess it has a similar game mechanic to X-Wing?

Similar in the sense that you're pushing models around a table simulating a dogfight, but that's where the similarity ends really. The one thing this game does uniquely is the 'advantage' system. The flight stands have three positions: Advantaged, neutral and disadvantaged. It's a really great mechanic that's used for various things and it really gives a sense of aircraft fighting and monoeuvring in a 3d environment rather than simply 2d like x-wing.

Just to clarify. This is not x-wing with WW2 planes. It's a totally new and original system designed to simulate WW2 air combat.

I've never really played table top war games but this has me intrigued. I'm not sure I fully understand it but watching this video and reading your comments Ant on the unique game mechanics and design to create a sense of WW2 air combat and maneuvering on a board game using 3D models has me interested. Thanks for sharing.

If the buy price isn't too much of a problem for you then it's definitely worth picking up a starter box to try. Everything is in there to play the full game. There's more to this game than a lot of the videos show. I don't think that one showed the 'Action deck' which is a deck of cards the player gets to use during the game. The deck includes several different types of cards, such as aircraft traits: So the British player would have 'tight turn' cards for his spitfires whereas the German player would have 'great dive' and 'great climb' cards for his 109s. There are also doctrine and theatre cards to represent things like the conditions of the aerial battlefield - Heavy cloud, heavy flack etc. and the tactics that the particular air forces used at the time. So, for example in the BoB the British player would have 'Home advantage' and Radar support' cards and the German player would have 'Seasoned pilots' and 'numerical advantage' cards.
