I have watched countless hours of gameplay for this game and still following it. I think its something that may interest me. Though I am worn out on paying for early access and they are not taking orders at the moment.

So question. Do you think, by the time this goes retail, that those already playing for a while will have burned out on it and the open world suffer due to lowering population ?

Or do you think this game will keep new and old timers happy ?

Provided that the open world environment works in a way where big clans won't chase away newcomers (ie who might get severaly ganked), with the depth of the sailing engine and the solid open world they seem to be building I would assume that Naval Action will be going for a while. Old timers can refine their sailing skills for years just as there's always something new to learn in a flight sim, so I could certainly see myself going back to Naval Action for years (but I also tend to have limited time and therefore only slowly accumulate playing hours over long periods of time anyway)

I am quite positive that Naval Action will be there for quite some time. The basics of the game (sailing and fighting) are very well done and the vast gameworld should keep things interesting. If the devs keep adding content at the current rate this will be become a true gem for anyone interested in the Age of Sail.

ahoy

I just connected after a 4 months absence and I haven't seen any of that on my account.

Looking at the new presentation, I am quite lost actually, what a change!

So where do you get that gold and EXP?...Or where do you get your ships back from?

While in port there's a button at the top of the screen that let's you redeem the gold and EXP.

You then just buy what you like. And what the port has to offer.

You don't get back your old ships from the Sea Trials.

The ETA for the patch (and wipe) given a week ago was this Wednesday. But apparently it's taking the devs a bit longer to finish the current build. Could be any day now.

I really don't understand how the game works. All my ships are gone and I am left with some gold and a yatch.

The behaviors of the ship is what it used to be before the patch, then the ship does not sail, it is on rail, it does not float but remain at the same level disregarding the waves.

Is there something wrong somewhere?

gunny, all accounts were reset with latest patch. It was necessary because of massive database changes that came with introduction of basic crafting system. It is normal for Alpha development. Might happen again, or even several more times, before full release.

Are you refering to ship movement on the open sea, rather than in battle? They are still working on the physics and visuals, but it will remain a compromise between travel times and plausible looks.

In battle ship movement has been significantly improved with latest patches.

I am talking about ships in Pitt's town harbor, and leaving that area. As for as I remember, the ships movements were fine last time I played battle in the original game.

I haven't been in combat yet, as I don't know how to get there. The menu has changed so much since last time I played. Is there a new guide published?

When you leave port in the Open World client you are in in "travel mode". That means you are using a constant time compression and simpler sailing mechanics until you actually enter battle. This is because the world is FAR to big to actually travel it in "normal" mode. Once you enter a battle the game plays like the Sea Trials version again.

To enter combat just approach a ship and click on it. A menu pops up with "hail" and "attack". Click on attack once you're close enough. Unless you're a pirate you should only attack foreign ships or ships carrying contraband though.

I am having fun playing this game on weekends. Although I feel degraded by being reduced to a Yacht, I have found it useful. For Example, Being chased by 3 brigs or a couple of LT Frig,s which does seem to happen more these days. My one beef is no controls for graphics. with more shadows being added its a strain on my old machine and 15 FPS is my best frame rate. hahaha

Yeah, got to play a few hours and I already miss my 74. pitchafit

But sailing around in a brig is good fun again, too. Tried a bit of crafting but as in most games I'm not much of a crafter type. I'm more the shoot-people-in-the-face-with-grapeshot-type.

biggrin
