Does the MI-24 not Hover in H or SHIFT H anymore in V1.15?

I pressed H and it hovered at around 50 m.

I switch to targeting system (PAGE DOWN DELETE) for the Schturm rockets.

While I was trying to lock up on a ground target, my MI-24 started losing altitude until it hit the ground;

the female electronic voice warning system came on to tell me of damage to the chopper.

Eek. I guess not. Just tried it - and checked against v1.13 where it seems OK.

Looks like Alt-H and hope you don't drift too much! This tends to be what I do anyway, so I hadn't noticed the change.

I'm wondering if there is some magic that can be applied to the relevant 'dyn' file, but I'm really not sure which value(s) would have an effect on this, if at all - never mind any unintended consequences.
My machine isn't exactly fast, so an extended trial-and-error session isn't an appealing option if I don't know where to start.

From what I've heard, a fully loaded Hind cannot hover.

Maybe it is more realistic now?

Have you tried hovering with less weapons loaded?

That would certainly make sense.

The vertical airspeed velocity of an unladen Hind? biggrin

Tested by proper 'scientific method', i.e. try to hover, fire everything, try again. You don't have to use up everything so it will actually hover while you still have a full set of guided missiles - standard loadout I guess, it was a hijacked returning insertion mission, one hopes without the troops still on board.

Strange....

I am kind of beginning to like flying the MI-24 and doing SEADS and CAS and CAS missions with it.

It's more challenging not having a ground radar and fire and forget weapons.

With the Comanche or the Apache or the KA-52 or the MI-28, you can bob up, fire and then forget.

On the MI-24 you have to keep the radar locked on the target while at the same time do your best not only to get a good line of sight but also avoid enemy gunfire and SAMS.

Hind is a two-men gunship, it does not have much electronics. Pilot flies, weaponer shoots, and hovering is a way to receive a shell or a burst. It's battle-field helicopter and not a sneaky strike one.
That's why its game modeling and usage is difficult. Tanks have at least three men not without a cause too.

Hey.

I completed a CAS mission yesterday (flying solo without a wingman) and there was a factory 1 km from the CAS area with SAMS around it and I was able to take out 4 SAMS before having to disengage after running low on rockets.

So in that one mission, I had 13 kills: 6 SAMS, 2 M-2 Bradley, 2 M-1 Abrams, 1 Hummer, 2 Trucks.

I did that with 4 Schturms, 40 S-8 and 64 S-5.
