...so I figure 10-15% is what to expect at the max overall. Where it works, I expect you to see more -- in many cases (assuming you play a wide assortment of game types). The more popular the game, the more likely the drivers will support it well (except those that are CPU limited, like Skyrim). For me, some games were zero. However, a small number of games and benchmarks were over 90 percent better. Others in the middle. As for installation, the conservative route is to download the latest WHQL drivers. Use the driver package UNINSTALL command to uninstall all the current drivers. Reboot the computer. Install the new drivers. Reboot the computer. Also install the latest CAP driver -- downloadable on the same AMD page as the WHQL driver. Its an extra driver for CrossFire. All it does is optimize some GPU graphics coded settings for each game -- not absolutely needed for CrossFire but bypasses some of the problem areas. The CAP driver can be updated every week or two -- as new games come out. In my case, after installation, the CrossFire feature was "on" (if its not on, just check the "on" box in the control center). Again, the CAP driver will turn CrossFire off when it does not support a game well. So, you don't have to "think" much -- just play the games in most cases. You'll get CrossFire or single card depending on what AMD thinks works best in that game. Afterwards, to update drivers. Just install the newest driver and newest CAP. They will automatically uninstall the old stuff before installing the new. Really no big deal in my experience. Be careful about trying to "override" in-game settings using the Control Center. Rather, for minimum aggravation, limit yourself to using in-game settings for all graphics settings (including especially AA -- I always use 0AA by preference which may save me some issues -- don't know).

The majority of my play is with racing sims. rFactor1 and 2 (when I'm not pissed off about it) and a few that are built on ISI's gMotor2 engine like Game Stock Car and GTR2. Also, pCARS from time to time. I occasionally will fire up a shooter or something like that...the Mass Effect series and maybe a COD title or two and even a flight sim or two, but racing's my primary interest.
In all of these, the majority of people have said they seen at least a small improvement running CrossfireX as opposed to their old, single car setups. They all recommend the same that you did, Allen....let the game itself decide the graphics settings, especially AA and use the Catalyst profiles and keep them up-to-date.
I'm an "old hand" with ATI cards and I've never really had a problem with driver uninstalls/new driver installs...guess I'm lucky in that regards, according to the horrors that some have described. I figure I shouldn't have too many problems with it.

Well, got my card today, unboxed it...everything looked great, identical model to the one I'm running. Crawled under my desk, disconnected everything and pulled the tower out. Put my anit-static strap on, took off the side panel and blew any dust off the components with some canned air...made sure everything was ready to go. Had already uninstalled my video drivers and even the card in the Device Manager. As usual, I looked everything over before installing the 2nd card and noticed that my Coolermaster 1000W power supply was going to need two more modular PCI-e 6 + 2 cables to power the card, having only come with 2 and they are in use for my current card....never even thought about looking beforehand as it's a pain to disconnect everything and get the tower out so I can take the side panel off. Tried to contact Coolermater's online support, but they're gone for the weekend it seems....so, left them a contact email and "they'll get back to me." It'll be a while longer until I'm Crossfiring it looks like.

Steve, my card came with 2 adaptors taking standard molex connectors to the 6+2 pci-e connector. At the risk of asking you to suck eggs, are you sure you didn't get one in the box that has taken to hiding?

The card had those too Myrig, but my power supply doesn't have any available. I've checked all the Molex ended cables and they're all in use. Coolermaster's tech department recommends that the card be run from the modular plugs, too.....they're only 4 bucks apiece, no biggie. Gives me some time to benchmark my current sims for comparison purposes, FPS wise. It'll just be later on before I'm Crossfiring and cussing, trying to set up profiles.

Finally got my new power cables in today....got everything installed, downloaded the Crossfire Application Profiles and ran some comparison tests.
In rFactor2, I seen an increase on parts of the track in FPS but not around the pits area, where I was having the most FPS drop before. In rFactor1, I've always ran everything maxed out and on the latest track that we're running at SimHQ, I'm getting about 273FPS..was getting 208 before in the same spot. In Project CARS....I went from 38FPS in the paddock stall at my testing track to 54FPS in the same paddock stall. Everywhere else on the track, I see the same increase. I think they biggest gain's been there so far.
Overall, I've seen at least 10-15% minimum increase in FPS using the same settings as I ran with one card, and that's probably in rFactor2...the least optimized of the three. For me, it was money well spent I have to say.
