This thread answers a few of my questions about the next game, BOM.
Re DCS, can you shoot stuff down in it? Can you run 50 planes in a single mission with reasonable frps?
I'd like to play the ETO battles, and if it's just flight on flight it seems a bit lame, even if the systems are complex and the graphics spectacular.

Yes you can shoot down stuff in DCS. No you can't run 50 WW2 planes yet, but 50 planes in CoD does not give good fps either. DCS World and 3rd party add-ons may possibly achieve this. You can fly 50 WW2 aircraft on a mission with broken software and bad fps, sturtters and poor graphics or fly a Mustang and shoot stuff up on very stable software with great graphics. Neither is perfect, take your pick.

Well, of course, you can always do 200 aircraft missions in BoB2...

...and in CoD - if you have a fast enough machine... BoB2 is a very old engine, which runs on old computers...

DCS is nice, but it is currently just a tech demo in a jet sim. When they release a BoB map, with >20 different aircraft types, multi-crew positions, and better dogfighting AI... I'll believe that the products can be compared. Until then it is missing all the things I listed.

I don't know what you guys get so worked up about? I almost think that some people are embittered due to the failur of CFS3 to actually be a good product. The fact is that CoD has problems, CoD will have problems, almost everyone acknowledges this, everyone will acknowledge this... so, what are we trying to provie here?

Yes, and some people feel that they shouldn't have pre-ordered - and are still complaining about it a year after the fact (which surely costs much more than the price of the product)...

Avimimus, install BOB2 on your "new" computer, update it to the latest patch, install multi skin and crank everything up and see how well it will run on your "new" computer because I sure as hell can't do it on my 2 year "old" computer. Granted, it's comparing apples to oranges, but I get really tired of people slagging BOB2 when they either haven't tried it or haven't tried it in the last five years. It's the only thing right now that will actually simulate the BoB for the off line player as it sits. Without payware. Without workarounds. Without the Italians. Don't like it? Fine, but my God it gets as tiresome as some of the other that goes on 'round here!
