I was referring to some opinions on a few vintage hifi forums that advocates replacing all the original capacitors whether they are measuring in spec or not, as a matter of course for using the equipment.

My own older gear isn't worth the investment on that level, but I had been considering some early Marantz and Pioneer receivers that could have been. Those two units ultimately needed repairs that would have pushed the expense even higher. With the Sansui I've just followed the old "if it ain't broke" approach, and even when I cleaned the pots I only treated those that showed symptoms.

When I read you mentioned restoring the amp, that was what I was wondering. Whether you had chosen to replace everything on sight, or just those that might need it. I hadn't decided on that kind of thing, myself.

Yes I replace all caps on the boards. Old caps are bad caps. Besides, the quality of caps today are much better in my opinion. I also replace every resistor and most diodes. The cost isn't really that significant. A quality vintage piece is worth it.

I have a Marantz 1060 which had lost fidelity in the phono amp. So I went ahead and replaced every board inside. The difference really is amazing.
