Semmern, just keep plugging away. Believe me when I say that there are a lot of professional pilots who would be very envious of you right now for the flying that you do. Enjoy your flying, keep up your great attitude and I think it is just a matter of time before doors will open for you. How many hours do you have now?

Thanks for all the good wishes. I know the course will be hard work, but I will certainly enjoy the challenge. Evidently the Global has a lot in common with the Challenger, which will help.

Nice pics. I'd be curious how the FLIR picture looks when the field is socked in. I'd guess the view through the HUD is much better than ours. We were sort of excited about the installation of the FLIRs on our King Airs (not through a HUD though) and then we realized they were completely useless in any kind of visible moisture (ie - FOG!). They are great for no-moon nights up in the mountains, and for weaving between thunderstorms at night as long as you are on top..but they don't do anything for us when it comes to spotting the runway earlier on precision approaches in the soup.

Congrats and keep up the great progress. Where do you go to school on it?

Chris, I will be heading to FSI at ILG for training. I am sure the EVS will have the same limitations on this airplane too. . FLIR is FLIR wink
Synthetic vision was a nice feature on the King Air's I flew once they had the G1000 upgrade. Of course, synthetic vision won't help you see the Deer stood in the middle of the runway at the small rural airports when you fly in at oh-dark thirty .
The HUD does let us come down to 100 ft on a Cat 1 ILS approach though, which will be useful.

Yeah. Our FLIRs were ostensibly installed to help us see deer on runways (we go into a lot of podunk places in the middle of the night). Our observation was..we'd probably see the deer right about as we hit it. In fact, the FLIR is a bit annoying because it is so bright. Most of us dim it down to the lowest possible setting, but leave it on for liability sake. If we hit a deer I know the first question from the company is going to be: "Well, did you have the FLIR on..??" Yes. Yes we did.

But..like I said, it is a really nice tool for flying in the mountains when it is dark and clear out. In combination with TAWS it gives a warm fuzzy feeling.
