So if I play a Steam game on my laptop, and then play it on my desktop..is there any way to get Steam to memorize or share the player statistics across platforms? Or are player stats (in game) only saved on the local machine you are using?

Depends on the game. If it uses steam cloud your stats and saves are shared. If not then no.

Civ V and Torchlight for example do that.

What do you mean by "stats"? If you mean like time played and achievements, they should be the same everywhere if you're logged into the same account and have Steam in online mode. As DE said some games will also sync your save files through Steam.

I have a question on Steam, and don't want to start a new thread, so, sorry, but...

Lost internet for a day last week, and couldn't play any Steam games? This was not the case on my last laptop, but seems to be the case with this one. When Steam starts without internet access, it gives me the options to "retry" (I think this is what it says), "start in offline mode", or "quit Steam". I choose "offline mode", and then a popup pops up (go figure) that tells me my internet connection is no good. Duh, that's why I choose "offline."

I know this isn't correct, but don't know how to fix it. Any help here?

(Sorry for going a bit OT)

Jugs-
That is how it works. You have to configure it for offline while you're still online.

It makes sense if you think about it. Oh wait...no, it doesn't.

Hmm.. Alright. I installed Crash Time 2 on two machines, but it doesn't appear to save the game stats in any shared way..

IIRC you should be able to go straight into offline mode with Steam as long as you've been online within 60 days. Unless of course you've turned on the option to prevent Steam from saving credentials on your PC.
