SimHQ EAW Forum - EAW Technical Help Questions Template [*] SimHQ EAW Forum - EAW Technical Help Questions Template -
Template to use when asking for help getting EAW (European Air War) working (version 1 april 14, 2012)
- State your question clearly
-
When posting, be specific, a post that just says Quote: 'Garbled screen'... Help! tells us nothing to narrow down the issue for specific solutions! Post What EAW.exe, What Screen, When ..etc. If you do this you will get help answers quicker and more accurately and more time can be spent playing, and for us who modify the game or prgram, we can spare countless hours to work on new developments instead of the same post over and over. Thanks!
- Always state the EAW.exe / version you are using
-
Important! Always state the EAW.exe version you are using, where you got it, What package was it from, Did you 'install' it or what? Was it working before? Does EAW 1.2 (or any version) work on your system? are you using a campaign or skin? Online or Offline?
- EAW.exe Tech issues vs OAW / campaign issues /add-on issues, etc
-
There's a difference between trying to get EAW working at all and various side issues such as using OAW, campaigns, add-ons, skins, planes, etc. Often they can be hard to seperate so the best policy is this: When trying to get EAW working at all, whenever possible just start with a clean EAW version, free of campaigns, etc
- When asking for help for EAW tech issues, post information
- Always state the EAW.exe version you are using
- 1. Your OS (Operating System, 'Windows XP' or whatever)
- How to get the information
-
One way to get this information to post is this method; (Example under Windows XP) From the Windows 'start menu', select 'run', type in: dxdiag That will launch the DirectX Diagnostics tool, which will show all information, and you can print it too a text file to post here, by using it's 'Save All Information' button, and save as: DxDiag.txt on your Desktop or in My Documents folder
- dxdiag - What to post and not post
-
First a few things to do to prior to posting: on Windows XP or lower: - Run all the DirectX tests on Vista on Windows 7 - In Windows Vista and Windows 7, DxDiag only shows information; it may be no longer possible to test the hardware and the various DirectX components Don't post the entire DxDiag.txt, just the parts related! for privacy remove the part: Machine name: --- and remove any other personal revealing information This is very important for your security and privacy
- How to post - edit information
-
Important! Please only post edited information Do Not post your entire dxdiag.txt ! dxdiag reports contain way too much irrelevant information for our purposes If you post all too much crap it will make the thread too long and unreadable which means we will get tired of scrolling through the enless posts and you won't get help Also it will make the post unreadable stretching the forum posts screen too wide to avoid stretching the forum posts screen too wide, preview your posts in the --------------- Display Devices ---------------remove the section between; Deinterlace Caps: and Registry: OK we don't need that information Remember; make line breaks in the following areas if posted: DirectDraw test results: Example - Good post with line breaks; DirectDraw test results: All tests were successful. Direct3D 7 test results: All tests were successful. Direct3D 8 test results: All tests were successful. Direct3D 9 test results: All tests were successful. Widescreen users or above 1280 x 1024; please be aware that it is real hard to read posts when they stretch the post width, this goes for screen shots too! Thanks!
- The only sections we really need
-
------------------ System Information ------------------(less the machine name) ------------ DxDiag Notes ------------ -------------------- DirectX Debug Levels -------------------- --------------- Display Devices ---------------except remove the section between; Deinterlace Caps: and Registry: OK -----------------------------------------------------sound issues related information for the problem, i.e if you have a sound problem; ------------- Sound Devices ------------- --------------------- Sound Capture Devices --------------------- ----------------------- DirectPlay Voice Codecs ----------------------- near end section called Audio Renderers: -----------------------------------------------------sound issues ------------------- DirectInput Devices ------------------- ----------- USB Devices ----------- ---------------- Gameport Devices ---------------- ------------ PS/2 Devices ------------ ---------------------------- DirectPlay Service Providers ---------------------------- ------------------- DirectPlay Adapters ------------------- ------------------------- DirectPlay Lobbyable Apps ------------------------- -------------- System Devices -------------- ------------------ DirectX Components ------------------
- Screenshots of EAW issues, folder issues, etc.
-
Do post screenshots if they are relevent but try to limit the size width, number and filesize as much as possible to reasonable otherwise it gets irratating and again ruins the threads for example if you post a dozen 10MB screenshots 2500 x whatever you in effect clobber the thread and can make it useless get a clue!
- EAW.ini
-
Posting parts of your eaw.ini is useful if relevent but posting the whole .ini is not usually needed and again usually makes the thread posts too long and annoying
- Thanks
-
this FYI is just my opinion but I think it goes along way to help posting and may be used in future 'stickies, FAQs' version 1 RAF_Roy April 2012
