Weight Penalty

No weight penalties (added 13 Sept)

Starting Procedure

All cars will join the grid from the standing position.

At the green, SLOWLY move off your spot and move into single file, offset formation.

The pole car has the control of the field, and should maintain a speed of 100 kph / 62 mph. Yes, its slow and that is intentional.

Allow extra spacing -- at least 3 car lengths -- to compensate for any lag or stutter due to graphics.

Do not hit the guy in front of you. No excuses folks!

Start working towards a 2 x 2 formation two turns before the big long straight.

Once I see all cars on the straight and in formation, I will call "green, green, green". The race doesn't start until you hear me call it, and it will probably be before the actual start/finish line.

Turn 1 could easily turn into "calamity corner". If you see you're not slowing down fast enough at the end of the long straightaway, go off in the sand instead of locking all four brakes and plowing into another competitor.

The World of GTR2 "ism's" (added 13-14 Sept)

Some reminders about GTR2, especially directed to those who are used to running rFactor most of the time. A big thanks to JonC for helping to compile these!

Multiplayer Menu and Setup

Be sure you have selected "Simulation" mode. (Main Menu > Difficulty > Simulation) If you are in another mode, the server will not appear (SimHQ Motorsports 3).

To confirm what the server setting is, once you're in the multiplayer lobby, click grid > rules. Note that the server setting trump whatever you have listed in your local menu. For example, under you realism menu the fuel and tire wear appear as "Normal". The server settings of 2x for each is correct.

Qualifying

There will be two qualify sessions on Sunday. The first is for everyone to do their official quali run. The second is a 10 minute safety valve in case someone has a disco. If no drivers have dropped, we will advance to warm-up. Unlike rFactor, GTR2 will not let a driver into an event during warm-up. If anyone gets a disco in the first qualifying session, they will have the opportunity to re-enter the race during the shortened second qualifying session. Once you've done qualifying, DON'T LEAVE.

Race Fuel

If you ask for 50ltrs you will leave the pits with 50ltrs. It does not add 50ltrs to what you already have as is the case with rFactor. If you had entered the pits with 60ltrs already onboard then none would be added and you will leave the pits with 60ltrs still. Fuel is never removed.

It's a good idea to plan your strategy well beforehand. In the "Garage\Setup One" screen set the number of stops to 8 and reduce all the fuel fills except for the one that you require to 1ltr - you can't set to zero but the effect is the same. Then reduce the number of stops back down to 1 or however many you plan and ensure that this stop has the number of litres of fuel that you wish to fill up to. This helps if you have to make unplanned stops later in the race and you won't have to zero the fuel and waste many seconds. Of course it doesn't help you if you need to make an early stop for repairs! Tip: don't crash!

For fuel stops you will need to kill the engine. You have two options:

1) Make sure you know your keys for 'ignition' and 'start'. Use 'ignition' to kill the engine when you stop, then I usually hit both once the stop is completed.

2) Don't assign keys to either 'ignition' or 'start'. In this case the game will do it for you ie kill the engine and restart it.
Doing it manually yourself can be quicker. However - in the heat of the race and under stress you can get the fumbles and it could take longer. You decide. The auto process maybe takes a second or two longer.

Pit Stops

Make sure you have your keys assigned to navigate the pit menu and make adjustments. I've sat there before after 30 minutes of close racing only to be left stranded and unable to make changes! Tears guaranteed!

Beware: when you are navigating the pit menu it is easy to accidentally switch to the AI driver (at the top - current driver!). I think this can be averted to some extent from within the game Options\Advanced window. If you switch then that's it - the AI will take over and likely cause havoc and you will have to escape. And please do before the AI takes someone out! I killed Rob like this once. smile

Auto pitting (pitlane control) and automatic selection of tire compound can both be toggled on/off via the game Options\Advanced window. Whatever option you choose to use just make sure you run a practice race and pit so that you know what to expect. I turn pit lane control off as it tends to be very heavy handed in a crowded pit!

Calling the pits beforehand can save a little time - otherwise you will see your guys scurrying out of the pits wheeling tires as you trundle down the pitlane.

Use XD - http://www.vitumo.de/ With this you can call up the pit menu before pitting so that you can make changes. Try it beforehand and make sure you have the correct keys mapped.

If using XD make sure that your seat adjustment isn't done via the cursor keys as these are used to navigate the XD pit menu. You'll make your changes and suddenly find yourself on the bonnet, backseat or roof of the car. smile Actually it's the same for the in game pit menu navigation. Basically, don't use cursor keys to adjust your seat!

Remember to assign a key for the pitlane speed limiter. The limiter will stay on when you leave your pitbox but will automatically switch off as you exit the pitlane - don't do this manually or you will just turn it back on again and someone will drive up your arse.

After the Race

At the end of the race, keep going. Once you go past start/finish line in rFactor, you can pull over. Not so with GTR2. Complete the full lap and if you're unsure, cross the start/finish line twice. Its terrible to drive for 1.5 hours only to esc too early and receive a DNF, or worse loose a position or two in the finish.

Have any more GTR2 ism's? Post them in the thread and they will be added here.

But they drive on the wrong side of the car!
Looks good though. How is GTR2 different than Evo? I couldn't find GTR2 anywhere when I was looking. Looks pretty well polished, what else is different?

Looks interesting, I'll have to download it and check it out.

Personally I'd prefer a Power and Glory series myself.

Nice video, guod, thanks. I've been meaning to give the Super GT mod a thorough running for a while now. I'd definitely be up for a SimHQ series with mod. We were able to muster a fairly good number of drivers for the TCC series a while back -- why not formally try to gauge current GTR2 interest levels?

Not really, the average was 8.4 which is pretty crummy (although better than the current F1 93 series) and it was getting worse each race. That being said I'm in smile

Plus not sure I trust polls anymore, for the recent GP79 series we had an average of 12 entrants per race whereas a total of 32 people voted for it. Confusing much?

On the YouTube page description is a link to the 4-part download at NoGrip. However, that has some 'issues' with installation and a multi-part d/l is a pain.

I got my download at this link, which is where the mod team recommends you get it:
http://firestorage.jp/index.cgi?act=down...mp;comoff=16864

Just click on the "1. SUPER_GT_500_v3.0.rar 358.04MB rar" hyperlink near the top 1/3d of the page for a single, 358 MB download.

Or, Megaupload has it in one file here (although I have not d/l'd it from this link): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SQG3QEAT

Glad you guys liked the video. This is a very, very fun mod. Apparently, GTR2 can be hard to obtain nowadays, which is too bad. But BB does not make this mod for anything but GTR2. I sure wish there was an rFactor version, just for the multiplayer hosting capability of rF.

GTR2 came out before GTR Evo and the whole Race series. It uses ISI's rFactor game engine, but a different Multiplayer code that isn't quite as robust and versatile. Many feel that GTR2 was the pinnacle of SimBin's physics modeling, and that subsequent games were less robust in that department. I don't think that's entirely true, and some felt that GTR2's tire model was too grippy - whatever, it feels good to me, although different from rFactor, and the sounds and graphics in the original content are superb.

It has a worthy place in any sim racer's software library, and like rFactor there are some really good mods for it - one such being the Super GT 500, as well as the Super GT 300 mod for multi-class racing.

About differences between GTR2 and Evo (as far as remember correctly)

Tyres - (most important difference to me). Evo has only dry and wet tyre to choose from, while in GTR2 you have wider selection: Hards, Mediums, Softs, Intermediates, Soft wets, Hard wets, Monsoons.

Just to add:

I would definitely sign up for some GTR2 races.
