I've seen Downfall and it was pretty good and seemed more authentic because it was in German language but there was another movie done on the same subject with Anthony Hopkins as Hitler and it's quite good too. It is called The Bunker. Ever see it?

There is a documentary movie where they interview Hitler's secretary when she was still alive. She claimed she didn't know what was going on and just followed orders. She was that pretty one in Downfall. Ever see that?

I've never seen that one but I did see the one where Alec Guinness played Hitler. I believe the movie was titled "Hitler: The Last 10 Days".

I think it is way more effective to portray him speaking German, since so much of the persona/power of Hitler was his voice (like Saruman), heard on countless broadcasts or in films it just throws it off to have him speak English, no offence to great actors like Guinness or Hopkins. And Bruno Ganz went to great effort to get the voice correct.

I remember watching an interview with Ganz where he said that he did thorough research on Hitler's distinctive Austrian/Bavarian accent in order to make sure he got it right during filming.

A friend of mine says Hitler's mustache was way overdone in Downfall and found it funny.

Ganz repeatedly listened to the only recording of hitler speaking normally in a conversation, surreptiously taped by Finns when he came to see Mannerheim on his birthday. It has been discussed in threads here at SimHQ before.

I've read too many painful accounts of WWII, from europe to the pacific.

The popular "Hitler" scene from Downfall, no matter how ingenious the subtitles are, really can't make me laugh. Usually I try to smile then it just fades away quickly as I remember each of the horrific accounts I've read.
