Hi CR, well the quickest fix (avoiding changing drivers and stuff) is probably to load the d3dwindower program and play the game through that, it is a very simple little freeware proggie that seems to cure a lot of Nvidia card problems. get it here : http://www.brothersoft.com/d3dwindower-238977.htmlafter installing just drag and drop youre eaw.exe into the box and then under 'settings you can set the window size to the size of your screen, bearing in mind the width and height boxes are inverted !! so height of screen goes in the 'width' box etc.... if you have any problems setting it here is my setup : open the d3dwindower and select an eaw.exe, then click on the 'settings' tab... under the 'common' tab I have height : 1024 width : 750 ( not 768 so it stays on screen in the window) and 'use windowed mode' ticked under the 'window mode' tab all 3 DirectX modes along the top row ticked and : Ddrawcolour emulator Ddraw colour converter and Ddraw primary bit ticked all the boxes under 'foreground control' and 'direct input' are left blank that setup works for my machine but you may need to tweak it a bit. cheers, Pobs

Hi, For Win32 error please check also there: WIN32 error solution Try this: --Go to your Windows directory in XP. You may have to change your browser to "show hidden system files" first. Then go to Windows\Repair and copy the file autoexec.nt (either right-click and "copy" or CTRL-C to copy ) Paste this file in Windows\System32 and let overwrite the "autoexec.nt" That's it. Try eaw.exe again. OFF

The Win32 error usually is from trying to use an exe other than EAW.exe to start the sim. So open the EAW folder and make sure that the start command is EAW.exe. I would only get the Win32 error if I tried to do a fresh install of EAW and then attempt to start the game. Since downloading and installing the 128e patch I do not get the Win32 error, or any other error. The only thing that happens when I start the game is that it shows the 1st screen/main menu screen however, there is a lot of distortion in the screen and it does not show anything that I can click on and I can not get out of that screen unless I do a CTRL--ALT--DEL and then select End Task. Every time I produce the End Task Screen after hitting CTRL--ALT--DEL, it always shows that the game as not responding. I did as you suggested and opened the EAW folder and changed eaw to EAW. I do not have any game files in that folder that actually show a .exe suffix. The only way I can tell it is a .exe file is that for description it says "Application". After doing the change, the game still acts as I stated in the paragraph above. Thanks

Hello Compass_Rose. Have you tried the Windower program, which Pobs suggested? It does help in some situations.
Supports EAW 1.29.exe, Drop in and Play Technology. 1.29 download

Hi CR,
glad it helped.
If you can't see the extensions on the files in folders i.e. .exe .ini etc... then just open any folder and click on the 'tools' menu.... open the 'view' tab..... and make sure the box that says 'hide extentions for known file types' is unticked... then you will see the full names of all the files on your computer, in XP it is ticked by default and hides all the extensions, which is a real nuisance if you are modding files....
cheers,
Pobs Hey Pobs, Thanks a bunch, again! Yes, it is a very big nuisance and to think of all the headaches I could have avoided, all of these years, if I had only known! It just goes to show, that it is never too late to learn something new! Do you have any suggestions as to where I need to start with trying to get my old Sidewinder Precision Pro setup for EAW? It appears that it is very overwhelming process. BTW, is it normal for the movies that appear when the game (128e) loads to skip several frames at a time or is it caused by my current settings? Thanks Again, CR

Hi CR,
I use a sidewinder precision pro too but it is simplicity itself to set it up for EAW. I dont use the sidewinder software I just set the programmable buttons within eaw using the configure screens. Exactly what goes where is of course your own preference but if it helps I can tell you what I have on the stick buttons ( although Knegel will tell you completely different setup since I use my mouse as my view 'tool' to look around the cockpit and sky). I have my 'view next friend' and 'view next enemy' assigned to my mouse buttons left and right, and 'centre view' on the mouse-wheel press button while I have assigned the throttle to the mouse wheel itself. This frees up the buttons on the sidewinder for a number of options as follows :
button 1 all guns button 2 secondary weapons (bombs/rockets) button 3 flaps up button 4 flaps down button 5 map button 6 landing gear up/down button 7 bail out button 8 drop tanks
and on the top POV hat button I have zoom in view on the bottom position, zoom out on the top and primary and secondary gun groups on left and right respectively ( ie mg's and canons seperate)
I can drop you a copy of my button settings for you to paste into your ini if it would help...
cheers,
Pobs
PS I should mention that this is set up for the 1.28 series of exes... for the 1.2 sets some of these button settings wont work ...

No- just run them in your 1.28e folder OK, Thanks Try editing eaw.ini by changing 'play intro=0' or off. Then the into movie will not play. I try messing with it tonight, thanks!

Hi, I'm also having problems with setting up the keyboard commands. Every time I attempt to swap command keys, I can never select Y=yes. The game only allows me to select N=no. Same problem also and dunno why A workaround is to edit your EAW.INI and make the change(s) there and save ! Check the [Remappable Keys] section Be sure you don't use a key already used by a other command !!

Hi Compass_Rose, I have searched SimHQ for several days and found this link that looked promising however, after loading the downloads, I can now get the game to start up without any error however, the front page game menu is pretty much unreadable and I can not click on anything. Did the front page menu look like the picture on this page? Not the koala, the picture a few pages down If so, would you be willing to download and run a little test program to help me gather some more information about the problem? If so, I'll write that little test program Thanks in advance, David
