Ricochet - 05/21/09 05:34 PM

Hi all biggrin

Have you ever seen something like this in Il-2 before?

I mean the bullet ricocheting on the lower surface of the left Hurri's wing. This is not an actual Il-2 image but a Birds of Prey's for PS3:

posted here some days ago.

Everytime I hear in combat any 'clong' I presume another hole in my crate but never thought it could also simulate a ricochet. Has any of you seen something like this in our sim in a fight?

No, but I'd dearly love to see them when strafing ground targets as you see in RL footage!

Pato, en iL-2 hay rebotes

Lo más fácil es que cojas un iL-2 y dispares con calibres pequeños.. verás como rebotan.
Hay también un mod de añade rebotes a tutiplen.

Actually, there is a ricochet mod for strafing ground targets. I remember it being posted at AAA until it was pulled shortly thereafter. Seems it was considered a weapons mod (which is a no no).

I was hoping someone found it in the depths of the internet. For offline flying, it shouldn't matter which mods one uses.

Online is another story.

The problem is you never know how people will use the MOD. Besides the MOD includes cracked versions of the weapons files that anyone with a bit of java knowledge could edit into a weapons MOD : Pandora's box.

That said, I seem to have noticed a slight increase in German guns' power when using this MOD, which would make it a weapons MOD...

Cheers

If you fire a cannon round at an IL2 (unmodded) it will ricochet off quite frequently, especially if you fire from the rear.

Well console games will never meet the appetite of true flight simmers so - I say just wait and see what Oleg and other next gen developers have install for PCs (which have much more processing power than any console).

It has been around in sims for some time now. The latest version of SDOE released like 5 years ago even has this. I have seen it some in IL-2: 1946

Take off in a 109E or F and shoot at an IL-2 for a while. Since the IL-2 has an actual armor plate that covers the whole front of the aircraft you're more likely to get the richochet effect. I've seen it happen on occasion when shooting other aircraft as well...but that is more rare.

As a corolarium, the Shturmovik is a pasive ["shooting at an Il-2", as IceFire and FlatSpinMan both mention] and an active ["strafing from an Il-2" Gadget's point of view] source of ricochets. Interesting point, isn´t it? he, he wink

there are ricochets on il2, but i only saw it happen on armored planes, like il-2 and others.
