Good games tonight- First ETO Planeset 4, then later DAW140 with the 30 plane planeset was tested for the first time and it worked well. The Stukas dive bombed, just as they were supposed to.

We are dog sitting in Viry which is in France but close to Geneva while Sebastien and Lucille have a holiday in Thailand.
So far we have visited several villages and towns on the Swiss side of Lac Leman going as far as Lausanne, then yesterday we saw some delightful French villages such as Yvoire on the French side of the lake, finally reaching Evian.
So today it was Chamonix.
This was the view of Mt Blanc from the platform I was on at L'Aiguille du midi:


We will be here in Viry until the end of the month, but I will try to get some online flights in whenever I can

You would have to use an earlier version of EAW which reads the "Europe1.pic" for the target and in-flight map
The later versions are flexible and use the "TARGMAP.PIC" (as in your picture) plus the "tileset.mpf" file for cases where the tilemap is not 640x320, as in the case with the reduced Western Front.

Currently RL has me so busy with friends and family visitors that I have little time for EAW. I am not doing any programming, and have no real wish to do any more.
However, I would like to get back to flying online and I will open a room at GR after dinner

An enforced early night for me, but we had enough time for some good missions with planeset 1 and then we switched to Planeset 4 to fly the Russian planes. The La-7 really packed some punch as an interceptor in the first missions. These screenies are from a mixed interdiction flying the IL-2 to Harburg. After destroying the train we attacked river traffic on the Elbe:

Sho and I flew a repeat of last night's mission, with more appropriate bases.

After we destroyed the target, and another train I went for the river tugs and barges.

Between us and the guys at Chatzy it is multiplayer that keeps the game alive.

Me and Shogun online tonight.....last mission was an escort of Avengers with F6F's.
We wacked about 10 A6M2's.....the Avengers sunk the Shokaku....and we landed safely
on the carrier:




The landing routine for the AI needs to get fixed thou....all AI land on carrier, then
promptly drive off the side:

Ralf wrote that routine based on the "allied carrier" in 1.28c, and it works in ETO01.
Maybe the 3dz and/or airfield sizes are different in SPAW, hence the result.


I should be able to fly this evening, and hope to open a room around 7 pm European time

I tried a mission with a carrier take off, switched to wing leveller and then sent the squad back home.
In 1.29 they park properly, as per the screenie, but in 1.40 they fell off the side

One possibility is that Ralf changed the landing code in 1.30 which has now become part of 1.40.
I will fly a 1.30 to test this again.
If the code has been changed I will see if I can get back to the 1.29 routine somehow, or fix the routine

The problem is in 1.30 and likely to be due to a code change.
In 1.29 the planes go straight up the deck and park near the end, as in the previous screenie.

In 1.30 (and therefore in 1.40 also) they go straight, then make a turn to the right. The first plane parks fine, the second is "OK" probably on part of an invisible airfield slightly wider than the deck, but the third and subsequent ones fall off the side.



I think that Ralf was trying to get a neater parking routine, so that the planes are all angle parked in line with the "island", but that there is an error in his calculation.
The code is on my other PC so I will need to check it, and for the moment I'll open a room for tonight's session

I disabled the 1.40 landing routine code, and replaced it with the code from 1.29.
The problem is fixed, but now I would like to see if I can get Ralf's 1.30 code to work as he intended.

After several days of connection problems Dumo shifted his installation to another drive and we flew with virtually no problems. The three of us had a good game. Dumo just needs to reconfigure his joystick settings on that drive.

What we found was that if the host launches the game by himself then on TeamSpeak tells each of the other players to enter the room and join the game one by one then everyone gets in OK.

Earlier in the evening ShoGun and I tested the new exe. We took off from the Allied carrier, put our own planes on wing leveller and then sent our AIs back to base. Watching on F9 we saw them all land perfectly and park on the deck in an orderly manner

First mission was a Torpedo Strike (a mission type that is only possible in 1.40) in Avengers, which was successful in terms of destroying shipping, but few made it home.

I was lucky in that I made a landing that I was able to walk away from LOL
The friendly secondary planes did a great job to keep the zeros from attacking us.

There is a "EAW1.40 RC6 CarLandV1" file at OneDrive to go in the "EAW Versions" folder.
It has the original 1.40 landing code, modified by me for a carrier landing, but retaining the 1.40 code for other types of runway. It seems to work OK.

One thing that I have noticed is that if a plane has any loadout whatsoever, it drops it after landing. In a test with P61s which had bombe the first plane landed, dropped them and blew up the carrier.
I will look at the return to base command, and see if I can add a routine that will release all stores.

As the new "Moggy's Middle East" has been made available to Club 140 members I would like to try it online later today, so I will open a room at 6.30 pm my time.
It is currently 5.05 pm here

Jel - Can't get online at that time, but would welcome short idiot's guide on how to go about it, so that I can give it a crack next time.

The main setting you need to make is on this screen:


If you click the Edit menu the dropdown menu has "Options" near the bottom
When you click "Options" it lists the games:


Scroll down to European Air War:


What you will need to do is to browse to your 140 folder and select "eaw.exe" to set the path. Mine is already set.

When you have done that you may need to go to the drop down list in the middle above the games, and select "MyGames".
That will show any EAW games that are being hosted (like mine) and you can select it and join.
Chances are that Windows firewall will make life difficult, and you will need to allow EAW and a couple of directX programs in order to fly. You can pre-empt this by flying Multiplayer from the normal game menu before you try GR, and any firewall issues should arise there and can be dealt with.

I left the test game but you are still in it at this juncture.
A couple of things you may need to know

To exit multiplayer use shift [ or shift ]

The in-game chat is the ~ key (under the Esc) ~ press it twice then type and hit enter when you have finished.
I have a French kbd, but EAW thinks it is English so sometimes I type garbage in game chat because A and Q are reversed, so are W and Z and a few other pairs.

Tonight you learned how to find and join a game. There are some other things needed if you host, especially appropriate targets and bases for real time play.

Condolences on the early demise of you and your Kate, Oberst MrJelly.

You must have been flying as an observer or you have have some mixed up string files.

They are correct apart from one Ray because the various IRAQ squadrons files are used, but in this Planeset they are flying SPAW planes. As the Kate is an axis plane I flew as a member of a German squadron.
The one which can now be fixed is the mission type file which has the additional "Torpedo Strike" text replaced with "Do not use for IRAQ". Now that this mission is available I need to edit the file.

The mission date was not historical, but that is trivial as far as multiplayer goes

I did release the torpedo and it sank the ship but I got hit immediately afterwards trying to take a screenie LOL

All reports indicate that the torpedoes were released correctly after the fix

There is a "Convoys.dat" file at OneDrive which onliners need to download and put in the put in the "MoggysMiddleEast" folder.

Can't see it there Jel.

Were any of the files I sent over today any use?

It must have not uploaded properly when I sent it, but I have done it again and it is there now.

There is a "BigMMECONVOYS.DAT" file at OneDrive.
It needs to be downloaded, put in the "MoggysMiddleEast" folder and re-named and "CONVOYS.DAT".

There may be a "CONVOYS.DAT" file in the "Planeset13" folder, if so delete it so that the only one is the one in the "MoggysMiddleEast" folder
