Oumuamua - they're coming!

Oumuamua - they're coming! - 11/07/18 02:20 AM

I found this interesting when I first read about it last year.

The first interstellar object observed by "us". Didn't fit with what we know and expect.
The Universe is big. One of these days we will probably find other life, or other life will find us.

Couple of articles since it was recently in the news.

It is interesting that Oumuamua accelerated away from the sun.

Aliens? Who knows. My bet is if it were aliens, then likely was a deployable pod/probe combo to determine if life in the system was present or if worlds met habitable criteria/resources were plentiful to place a stargate in our outer vicinity.

Better cover your arses, the visitors are coming!

Or it could simply be this...

If they can move it themselves, we have no way to stop anything they do.

It is billions of years old, if an artefact. Come on it's been travelling at low tau for all that time. If it's real it's old beyond comprehension and it's makers long dead.

The humor in ST IV was absolutely perfect but my personal all-time favorite is Wrath of Khan.

Give Kirk a break, maybe in his time Mormonism was considered a drug.

As for the Oumuamua, a giant cigar shape thing moving through space. It's clearly the doomsday machine and we dodged quite a bullet.

Hmmm... it might be an interstellar Lewinsky device sent from the planet Clinton (rhymes with Krypton).

Me, ... I'm thinking that sometimes a (big ol') rock is just a rock.

I don't know, here's a couple of experts who agree it's definitely aliens.

I know that the whole thing is just a joke, but why did it accelerate away from our Sun when leaving the System? That's where the "light-sail" stuff comes from. Whatever, it's old beyond comprehension and meaningless to us.

I loved the show when it originally came out, but haven't kept up and seen these new seasons.

As for the Oumuamua it's all just conjecture. Apparently, it was spinning so quickly we didn't really get a good look at it. The whole solar sail thing was just a half baked guess as to why it accelerated on the way out. If it was really thin enough to act as a sail, from what we know*, it couldn't have held up while spinning that fast or last as long as it did.

*And on this thing we don't know squat. So maybe I should just go rewatch old X-Files episodes and forget about it.
