I'ts time again to get HBO only for GoT

I'ts time again to get HBO only for GoT - 07/14/17 10:01 PM

At the start of each Game of Thrones season I have been signing up for HBO and then cancelling when the season is over. However, this year instead of getting it from my cable provider I decided to get it from Amazon's streaming services for just under $15 a month. This is less expensive than adding it to my cable channel line-up.

Who else is a GoT fan but on a budget? biggrin

That's always been our practice, with GoT and West World.
This time we're going to hold out and sign up for HBO streaming service when it's in the last couple of weeks. Then we can binge it all in one month and drop the service again until WW.

Ooh, after I got HBO again I realized I get to start watching Westworld - so I finally saw the first episode last night. Wow, it's really good.

Lots of other good shows on HBO (at least here in Norway).

Power
Six
The Magicians
Handmaiden's Tail
Killjoys
Supergirl
Billions
Mr Robot
Taboo
The Night of
Penny Dreadful
Quarry

It might be that HBO Nordic is more of a collection of various stations in the US smile

The show has some really great twists starting around episode 7. I'm glad to hear that you liked the first episode. It only gets better.

Well my son cam home with a Humo magazine on Saturday that had a free offer of a season pass for season 7 of Game of Thrones ... I have checked and the digibox recorded the show but I have to wait until Vic comes home from work so we can watch it together in the cinema.

It was reported on the news this morning that HBO Go had server issues last night during the GoT season premier last night. I'm glad Amazon's TV streaming service worked fine (knock on wood).

Wife just went straight to ordering HBO, no messing around with this show. It's only 2 months worth of shows and then we cancel.

I found that if you don't mind watching on something other than TV, you can get on HBO GO the day of and before the show airs and watch it early. It's been that way for a few years now. Pretty cool if you find you can't watch it live that evening but can earlier on.

If you've seen and enjoyed shows like "Rome" and "I Claudius" you will also like GOT.

PM never saw or even heard of those..But they sound like something I'd be interested in..But if for no other reasons I hate watching shows constantly interrupted by commercials for stuff I don't want and don't care to hear about,,I'm the kind who likes watching some thing like Band of Brothers on a nice weekend with pizzas and beer

Rome is very good, it follows two lads in Caesar's army, the whole tale is done over two seasons and it also follows the stories of Mark Anthony, Caesar, and Cicero, it is well done with very high production values.

I Claudius was a BBC TV production from a good few years ago with an award wining performance by Derek Jacobi in the title role as Claudius, I watched it as it was broadcast and not seen it since, it is one I must re-visit soon.

I mentioned "I Claudius" because George RR Martin has been quoted saying that "I Claudius" was a major influence on him when he started writing the GOT books.

you are watching from Season 1 right? I was never into this until the wife and I ran out of shows to watch so we rented season 1 from the Library. Loved it so much my wife bought the first 5 seasons on DVD, ex father in law then used them and bought us Season 6.

The 1 issue with GoT that there is SO MANY people we had to watch it twice just to follow along. You really do need some kind of sliding map/ledger on who's related to who...

It won't be long before they make it harder to sign up for a short period and then cancel. You have got me thinking about doing this now too.

nah...if they get ten times the amount of subscribers in 2 months than what they will regularly get in a year, they should be happy enough with the temporary subscribers. What they need is at least one series that keeps doing this every year, and they are golden.

Hence why HBO is doing one and possibly two GOT spinoff shows.

Westworld had great ratings for its first season but it won't be near the juggernaut that GOT is.
