Dead Celeb Tour 2015

In lieu of all these dead celebrities we've lost in the past year+, it reminded me that I meant to post this in 2015 but must have forgotten or gotten too distracted away. Anyway my wife Joanna and I visited Switzerland to visit her favorite idol Audrey Hepburn around the time of her birthday. So we went to her grave to pay respects and to her home in Tolechenaz and also saw her wedding site in Burkenstock.

While we were there went on a scavenger hunt of sorts trying to fins other dead celebrities' graves and we also found Richard Burton, Coco Chanel, Charlie Chaplin, and David Niven, all in one day.

It was pretty fun trying to hunt down these sites and amazing to think that such famous people were in such quiet, no-publicity, hidden in small town sites. It was also surreal to think that this is probably the most physically close we can get to these Hollywood icons, and closer than most will ever be.

Wow.

David Nivens autobiography The Moons a Balloon was a great read as a teenager. I remember being shattered when getting to the part were his new wife Primmie fell down some stairs into a stone basement when they were playing hide and seek. Great book.

It's interesting that you bring up Richard Burton bones because I'm currently watching the tv miniseries epic "Wagner" which originally aired in 1984. That was such a tour de force performance by Burton that I actually get goosebumps from time to time when I watch it.

I have never seen it but I imagine it was! He was pretty prolific. When he was buried, Elizabeth Taylor came to visit the grave and it was very controversial. I think people tried to deter her because of their stormy relationship. Then, at David Niven's funeral, his wife was apparently wasted at it to the point of embarrassment and Roger Moore actually lost his cool and was pretty stern with her to get herself together. Finally, a couple guys dug up Charlie Chaplin one night and held his body for ransom but they were caught. So much drama!

Switzerland is famous for watches and banking secrecy. I'm guessing these guys weren't horologists.

EDIT: I have an early memory of my mom watching a movie on our old console color TV (purchased second-hand, but a larger tube screen color set was still kind of a big deal then). Anyway, this chick was in the jungle playing with animals or something, and I swear see looked naked in some scenes (like an Adam and Eve thing, I guess). Just something about her...I remember how freaking cute I thought she looked in that movie. It was Audrey Hepburn, but I don't remember the movie (if I ever knew it).

There's nothing new about celebrities "retiring" to small quiet places in very nice areas of the world and frankly most people could care less about where they're buried or what their tombstone looks like

I asked my wife about that movie. She said it was called "Green Mansions" and was so-so. Audrey starred in it with Anthony Hopkins.
