Holy crap, that poker face. At that point though, the odds of her having a hand that would have beat the trip 3's was slim. I would've called. Then again, I never trust anybody who raises like that off the flop.

He should have played the cards and not the player.

But she is awesome at not only giving nothing away but looking confident.

What is the bluff card? What does it do, besides bluff? What other card can you throw down like that?

Re: Miss Finland Poker Bluff... - 03/31/16 01:31 AM

the guy had three fours because he held a four in his hand,

she had nothing just an ace and a 2.

you need to make a hand out of your cards and the cards on the table at the flop when the first three cards come down, then there is a four and fifth card and all the while betting happens and can be raised.. as well as checking and re-raising if some one bets.

She had absolutely nothing and had no reason at all to be in the hand just cold bluff him with her character / will / face.

bluffing is like lieing when you don't have any kind of hand, you can also bluff but could get a better hand,

I get that, but she threw a card out and they said, "Bluff". What is that? I am not a great card player, but I know the basics and I don't recall anything about a bluff card.

At the table, they didn't know yet that it was a bluff. He folded, they revealed that she had nothing by saying "Bluff", that's all. No "bluff card" in play.

That said, Finns and facial expressions... wink

I wondered however if she had kept her cool had it been her own money at stake.

I think it's staged, the guy was bought. Talked way too much, not cool.. but fun game.

Watch it again. There is a bluff card. This is a gameshow style poker. It uses special rules which make no sense to the normal poker player.

I think because they are making a tv show they use a bunch of prop cards like this bluff card but there are other types of cards that also do weird things and make no sense. Just like making the guy go to the cage because he lost the hand. Just weird stuff for a game of poker.

Here is the timestamp of the bluff card.

https://youtu.be/jCO0c7fJ1pQ?t=265

you can clearly see it being flipped after she lays it down (instead of laying her hand so that she doesnt have to show what cards she had, but then she shows them anyways.)

Speaking of beautiful women who can play poker, Jennifer Tilly is just ruthless at a table. It is just artistry to watch her work - and none of it is due to her looks (though it makes for much better watching!)

I really don't think gender or looks plays a any part of what makes a poker player
Math skill and plain good luck.

No- poker is psychological. It's a key part of the game to assess your opponent's hand while obscuring your own.

Psychology is a big part of poker. But so is math, probability, and knowledge of position betting.

There is still risk- even if you played at a novice card table, you may get intermediate or more experienced players who could be out looking to earn some easier money. There are strategies based on math and memory skills that experienced players can use against you.

I would have thought the fact that whole process is AI controlled the dealing etc
It would have been better for the novice player.

I would consider the risk of online gambling. I don't know the reputations of all gambling sites, but it's possible and not unheard of that the other players could conspire. For instance, you me, and some other people could coordinate and share the pot against some poor, naive players who didn't think of something like that. Even where that's illegal or violates the rules of the site, it's not always the easiest thing to detect or enforce, and the nature of gambling sites is that they can be a little sketchy.

Best to get some friends to practice for low stakes, lean the ins and outs that way, or play offline with some casino video games to practice some basics.
