He's lucky that the gear was OK with all that side load when it was in the grass.

And what is all that white stuff ?

Snow? Considering he was slipping on ice and the runway looks like an arctic swamp I'd say they need to break out the salt and shovels.

that's what happens if they don't have snow tires

snow on the sides, cars had to be scraped and the roads were slick today. He left Rhode Island this morning and was going to hit Brunswick and then Westover MA later today. Hope no damage was done to it.

Doesn't help that Brunswick is a private field now and not a Naval Air Station like when I was a kid frown

It was a beautiful place to visit and see the yearly air shows in the 70's and 80's wink

back in the P-3 days, back in 06 during a base visit.

I was stationed at Brunswick NAS back in 1966 to 68, part of my 4 year hitch, I was a teenager. Flew crewman on P2V's for VP-21. What I remember most is the small bar in Brunswick just off the base, and draft beer....
That, and the long drive to Lewiston, and the 'disco' there on the weekends.

We deployed to the Caribbean, Sicily, and Spain from Brunswick.

Yep, it was a long time ago wink
The 'jets' back then, were Phantom's....lol....

Phantom, P2V, tractor w/mascot, crew van & me.

I thought the spot before the video advertising Selby Shoes was far more interesting. Next time I'm in Portland, I know where I'm goin'!

Looks like A4 Skyhawks rather than Phantoms.

Is that you by the van ?

Skyhawks are sexy little things.

Taxiway is like my driveway right now, gotta watch out for the those ice patches.

Re: Blue Angels plane slips on Brunswick runway - 12/04/14 11:06 PM

Oh, yeah, those were Skyhawks!

Well, it's been a while, and when the jets came in, we all paid attention.
Never flew in any of them though.
I was the 'wand' guy wink when not crewing.
We all had groundpounder jobs on the side.

Yeah OG, that's me, 'with' hair.....lol....

I have some of the Phantoms, I'll see if I can find 'em....
This is a better one of the P2V, with the sonar bubble ;

Lots of hair on tractor. stirthepot

We had a few PVs around here but Trackers were more common.

Looked through all my old photos in the album, couldn't find any of the Phantoms.
Did find more of the Skyhawks.
Maybe they wouldn't let us take them, the Phantoms, as they'd just come out, I don't remember.
I did fine more photos though;

The last one is me and another crewman, skiing on Mt Etna, when we were deployed to Sigonella, Sicily.
He was an instructor from New Hampshire, and taught me to ski, then we took a furlough to Austria, and skied the Alps. They did have a cable car on Mt Etna, but you had to walk the last bit to the top, the edge of the crater.
I remember you had to ski around the black volcano rocks, they were wicked on the skis.

Good thing I didn't stick around.
The mountain has since 'blown up'.... wink
I have more photos of the ski lodge.
That 'spot' is no longer there, and the ski lodge is also.....gone.

I live close enough to Brunswick that we used to be able to hear the P-3s taking off. I kind of miss it. Their constantly flying over the house was free entertainment.

My Senior Flight instructor just told me that isn't one of the performing planes. It is the two seat press and public relations plane.

Number 7.

OG...do you mean the Skyhawks or the P2V?

The last photo of the P2V was one I found on the internet, to show a better view, I have no idea where that one came from, but it's better than my old B&W photos wink
The P2V in my photos, the B&W one, was the one I was a crewman on.

If you mean the Skyhawks, I have no idea 'who' they were, they just flew in for fuel, at our field, NAS Brunswick.

Re: Blue Angels plane slips on Brunswick runway - 12/06/14 05:21 AM

I remember flying into Brunswick from Whidbey one year in a P-3 doing "sleigh rides" (allowing troops from the east coast to go home for Christmas without having to buy a ticket from Seattle). We landed in a brutal snowstorm, and then once we taxied off the active the taxiway and ramp had the consistency of a hockey rink. We had everybody who could fit jam into the flight station to put as much weight on the nosewheel as possible for directional control.

LOL! I lived in Bath and the BIW across for our house and the P-3's flying over were the norm smile

I also remember that we had a duplex house and rented the other side to the Navy guys for years.
VP-23 was my favorite group of all times. Nothing like being the designated driver for 6 flies
and 2 ship borne guys - LOL! They were all great guys!
