New toy - 09/02/14 04:07 PM

Didn't really have a need for this since I will probably never use it for concealed carry or have ready for home use, but - hey, it's the James Bond pistol. Always wanted one since I was a young boy.

If you look, you can see a bit of extension on the front of the barrel. I have been looking for one like this with the threaded extension so I could use it with :

My 9mm suppressor. Nice little package. Haven't shot it yet.

"Mr....?"
"Grognard. Old Grognard." LOL

I was just given this by a friend who just couldn't stand to see me without a handgun any longer.

It's a S&W Model 10-10 in .38 special, safe for +P since it was made in the early 90s. He bought "some" (he thinks they're Michigan Dept of Corrections trade-ins), this is one he DuraCoated. I haven't shot it yet, the closest range is about 25 miles away. I'm hoping to go this weekend.

Couple beauties there. I've always heard the Makarov was preferable to the Walther but the Walther beats it by cool factor by about a thousand.

Oh, bah. I've been shopping around for a PPK for about two years and backing off due to sticker shock. Dang, what a beauty!

Do you have a craving for a martini or the inexplicable urge to wear a kilt?

In another thread, some would have said it's a chick handgun or at best a metrosexual hand gun, compared with the rest of your muscle guns... and for this one I envy you !!!!!!

Found it bottom feeding on gunbroker. Good buy at $480 ; especially with the threaded barrel. They are expensive and hard to find. It was a no-reserve auction and I guess I hit it just right. I was prepared to go $120 higher.

No, but now I do need a British sports car to go with it.

What caliber you get the PPK in? .32 or .380?

Mine is .380 smile

Funny enough, I just watched Dr No on Bluray this weekend and watched Boothroyd give Bond his "a Baretta is nice and light in a women's purse" speech. smile

However, Bond's silencer was like 1/4 that size! His wasn't even as long as the gun itself, let alone 2x long!

Mine is the 380. Funny how the 380 is considered a lightweight now, when it was a step up then. The .32 was the standard police caliber for a long time.

Nice grips. May have to get something like those.

Well, about the silencer size.

1. Don't believe Hollywood
2. That is a 9mm silencer and is made for full auto and has a kicker in it for non-locking barrels. That means it won't beat up barrels that unlock as part of their action. So it could be half that length. I have that for my 9mm Uzis. But it works just fine on 380. I just shot it today. All was good.
3. It is always a balance between size and function. You can go shorter and larger diameter, but that interferes with sights. Smaller means less suppression. And again, don't believe Hollywood on silencers.

Nice piece OG!
I'm looking for something for the wife. All mine are too much for her, she doesn't shoot. Wants to start out with a 9mm or .380
So I think I'll start out 'cheap'.
I doubt she'll stay with the smaller one when she gets used to it, but....maybe.
To each his own. She carries it for the black bears in back, when she walks the dog. Right now she carries my old backup .22 semi-auto....but it wouldn't even frighten the bear...lol...need something 'louder'.
She's not thinking of actually shooting the animal...just in case he starts forward...a deterrent.

My daughter loves her .45 Kimber, but she's been shooting since she was 10......so....

I'm thinking that .380 you have would be a nice starter....the old one you carried.

Of course the suppressors, are out of the 'economic' question.... wink
But if I had the cash, I'd have one on my .45

That was an interesting video Peally....liked it. smile
