And I'm going out of town this weekend! Well, I'm taking my laptop with me, and I have Steam and some games on it, so I shouldn't miss too much.
The Jedi Master
You and me both. 'cept all I have is a lousy Chromebook... At least I can buy some stuff for when I get home.
I plan on picking up a few good platformers for cheeep. Been replaying Mark of the Ninja, and I am enjoying that simple old-school 2D feeling, but with gooder graphics than my old NES and more cleverer gameplay.
If you like mature western RPGs get The Witcher 2, and if you like well done light strategy get XCOM: Enemy Within. Both are magnificent games at a dirt cheap price.
2 is completely different gameplay wise. It's more a straight up action RPG than the "click a lot to swing" mode of the first game. I'd look up gameplay videos if you're curious.

You know, I read that as a "mature RPG Western". I'm picturing quick draws in the street at high noon, joining the posse going after Billy the Kid, being at the OK Corral...
As for the Rome II DLC, yeah, I'll wait. We have until the 30th to get it at that price...OR it might be less between now and then, so if you don't need it now, you wait!
lol on that last video. Yeah there's a bunch of crap I'd like and will probably go broke. I'm trying to discipline myself thought and not just impulse buy even it its on my wish list because more than likely it'll be on sale again.
Port Royal 3 (don't have any main menu mouse.... anyone?!)
And I was gifted by Coot SC:Blacklist
PS: guys, don't forget that link so you'll now if the game was someday cheaper (like Coot, you could've saved 7$ if you waited a bit for Splinter cell but thx anyway! )
Oh and XCom: EU + EW is on special... GRAB IT!!!!!
Is Rome 2 fixed now? I only heard the horror, the horror, I tell you at the initial release. Also, has anyone played Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion? The trailer looks great and it's 8 bucks.
I just bought Batman: Arkham City GOTY plus Dishonored GOTY. The latter I'm mainly interested in seeing how the city looks. It seems to be taken from China Mieville's "Perdido Street Station".

Rome 2 has had 12 patches so it is a vastly improved game over the initial release. It's currently 50% off so I think you should get it.
I play Sins all the time and it's a really fun game to play either head to head or cooperatively. Unfortunately there's no single player "campaign". All you can do is play custom scenarios against the AI.

I got sins as well. Happy to have a co-op one day, but I am still very basic in understanding it.
Thanks a lot guys. Yes, Steampunk, Victorian, plus squalid and somewhat twisted, would describe "Perdido Street Station" well. "Sins" - there's no campaign? That's disappointing (though for 8 bucks, shut the F up, FSM). I just assumed it would play through that way. Perhaps the earlier, non-expansion game offers one. Must do a quick google. Rome 2 - I was poised to buy it when I reminded myself of the fact that I expressly do not allow myself to play TW games anymore because I know for a fact that they suck me away from reality every single goddamned time I try them. I love them, just love them, and therein lies the problem.

Yup, I know the feeling quite well. I put in over 1,000 hours of game time with Shogun Total War 2 and I already have over 700 hours of game time with Rome 2.
Steam now is overtaken by so many small indie games. I have zero interest.
Its kind of like saying, I don't want to go to Tesco (or something like walmart for the seppos) because they sell cheap rice and I don't like rice (does walmart sell rice).
Steam is a shop. It sells stuff. You are the customer, you choose what you want and buy it. There are plenty of things in shops I don't like, but that doesn't mean I won't go in there to find what I do like.

I never implied I didn't want to shop at Steam. I just prefer the big budget games. Sue me. The indie games just clutter up Steam, it's made browsing a chore.
You don't need to browse Steam for anything. I just look at the front page's list of new, upcoming, and best selling games and usually what I want is there if not in the main "LOOK HERE" banner that scrolls.
I suspect my ISP may have blocked it, Before the sale, for the last year or so, Whenever I logged into Steam, My Modem would be kicked offline every time. Same with Origin or Movie Websites... A Reboot resolves the issue for a day or so. But lately it's been 3 or 4 reboots every afternoon. I havent had my modem disconnect since I've not been able to log into steam. (Doesn't connect)
I got 7 Days To Die Looks like it will be good - very nice atmospherics from the off. Just wish it wasn't yet another Zed game, where I have to read tons of mostly outdated player-made wiki to find out how to play. Last time I bought The Dead Linger - I think it's worse now than it was last year. Same deal with the info. Gave up on DayZ SA and the most fun and time I've spent was on Infestation (nee WarZ) with a Steam group that broke up as soon as Payday 2 was released.
I do have higher hopes for 7DTD, though - it's the most creepy feeling of the zed lot. Not that I last more than a couple of minutes per round.
In a similar way I managed to "collect" BF4 for $19 during some Black Friday Origin coupon sale, tried it a couple of times but haven't had much time to play it yet since I hear it's been laggy and I've had other fun stuff to play
Hmmm....anyone else selling those adventure cards they are getting when purchasing games on sale? Since recently discovering the Steam "market" I've crepted my wallet to just over five dollars. I started selling those cards for a penny under the top going rate and sold them instantly lol. Now I've got $7.58 lol. Whoohoo lol. I know you can craft crap or discover something to get you free games but I've spent(shame on me) over a hundred dollars on steam sale for others and myself so I don't need to spend more money to get steam cards to maybe get three free games.

Yep, I sell them instantly, amazes me that people collect them. Just like TF2 hats *spits*
My ISP has indeed blocked Steam's Domain (I can log into SteamPowered At work though :p )
They cited that I transferred over 100GB in the last 30 days from their domain, their Anti-Piracy security automatically kicked in and was kicking my My modem's MAC off their network whenever I tried to connect to it, and eventually blocked it.
I escalated a Ticket... They are looking into it. As I've bought stuff already for my brother and my self via website.
Maybe I should disable auto updating for the games I have in steam (only a few), But my brother has like 100 or so between freebie codes and steam sales.

I've listed everything I had the same way you did. A cent or two under the market and they each sold in about 10 seconds. I suppose people had standing buy orders. The number of transactions in the last 24 hours is amazing, I can't believe 6000 people wanted one card from Borderlands 2. LOL
So far I've got $2.03. I think everything I had sold. Last time, during the christmas sale, I listed one of those snow globes, which I assume is like the cards this go around. I think I listed it at $3 to try to catch someone desperate at the end of the contest time. They could win something for a full set. It sold! LOL
Yeah when I first tried to sell my sale cards I was trying to be a greedy, sneaky bastage selling them for 50 cents a piece hoping to benefit from some desperate nut trying to complete the adventure.
sold mines too+ a lots of TF2 itmes. Made 11$ in 30 minutes LOLLL
by the end of the day I might have enough to pay only 5$ to get ARMA3 LOLL
edit:
If you have to buy 1 if them, wich 1 would you take?
Cologne - Dusseldorf - 20$ Western Lines of Scotland - 20$ West Coast Main Line + EWS Class 66 v2.0 - 17,19$ NEC: New York-New Haven - 24$ (bundle with loco 28$) West Coast Main Line Over Shap - 20$ Stevens Pass - 20$ East Coast Main Line London-Peterborough - 20$ (+class 321emu bundle 24$)
Nearly bought Metro: Last Light. It sounds pretty good but then I heard there's a "remastered" edition coming out in the fall. I won't get to play this until fall anyway so thought I'd wait.
I've enjoyed Last Light. Runs far better on my machine than Metro 33 ever did. I'd say wait for the re-mastered one as well as it probably will include all DLC one being that ranger difficulty mode.

Anyone have an opinion on this game?
Depends. Buying Last Light now gets you 50% off of Last Light Redux. So $6.80 now + $12.50 later. If you plan on getting LL Remastered on release, you'll pay more for it at $25.
If you planned on playing Redux at release, I would buy LL on sale now and then Redux at release. I would no bother installing LL and buy it simply to get the discount on Redux.
Why are they remastering a new game that's one of the best looking already? I really loved the atmosphere of the first, but never got beyond the "find the explosives in the dark" mission.

That's a good idea, Flogger, I think I'll do that for both. Metro 2033 is only $3!
The remastered LL is a silly GOTY edition, it's just all the DLC in the game for a lower price, I don't think they changed it at all. However, 2033 Redux is now on the updated LL engine, so I'm likely going to get that.
I have both, too, based entirely on a demo video I saw by someone (one of the well known reviewers, but I can't remember which). It was for LL, but when I saw 2033 really cheap, too, I bought that as well.
I put quite a few hours into 2033 but I never felt comfortable with it and felt it was bit clunky and too scripted.
That put me in the wrong mindset for LL and I just gave that an hour or so before leaving it for a future date. It's still installed and I'm sure I'll give it a go again but at the moment there are more interesting things to try.

The Jedi Master
From what I understand LL Redux will get improved shooting mechanics and AI improvements. Probably minor. Might want to look into that more though. In either case, if the improvements are not worth waiting for, might as well snag it and all the DLC for $6.80.
The games are very linear and in the current versions AI can occasionally be dumb, but they are otherwise solid and fun. Nice setting and graphics.
I really enjoyed Last Light. Played through twice. Sure it has it's limitations, and boss battles that seem so out of place to me and I did not enjoy them. At all. But all in all it was a very fun ride for me. I'd rate it as one of the best games I've played in the past year. I echo Jedi and say no to waiting. Go for it.
well I spoke too soon, got online finally, started downloading the DayZ update, boom 20 minutes later booted offline, Modem Logs show it was a DNS Forced Disconnect.
Called ISP Again, they said it might be my modem.
Power Cycled Modem, restored internet, opened steam, disconnected (repeat like 10 times)
Finally Power Cycled modem, left steam off, stayed online fine.
I think it's time to put the DOCSIS 2.0 modem to rest and upgrade the home networking.. Docsis 3.0 w/ Dual bonded channels, Gigabit Router and Cat6 Cable
I think there's a subliminal limit of 1TB/month download, I think it said on the bottom of the service info last time I paid online. but I've never come close to that. and even if I had, it's a simple phone call to reset.
I think my modem is just not having fun anymore. years of abuse.
ISP is aware I'm a Gamer.... I think it's just time to upgrade.
I was able to get it to stay online last night long enough to download the updates and stuff for some of the games I already have installed.

Do you have Origin or UPlay? It would be interesting to see if those services get blocked as well if you try to download games and updates.
Borderlands 2 is a fun game especially if you play it cooperatively. On a couple of rare occasions I was able to have 4 human players in a game and that was great fun!
How was is compared to the first game? Playing with 1 or 2 people the original Borderlands felt really bland and empty, kinda like WoW with very rare NPCs just standing around waiting to give out quests.
Bought my first game of the sale. Blood Dragon, paid a $1.12 for it thanks to selling all my steam cards.
I like Blood Dragon, stick with it though as it seems daft to start with (to be fair its not supposed to be taken seriously) but opens up after first couple of missions.
I got AC4 free with my GTX770, along with SC: Blacklist and Batman: AO. Literally the first time EVER that a game bundle I got with my video card had ONE game I wanted to play, let alone 3.
Never would've bought Batman, but since it was free I tried it and really liked it! Bought Arkham City GOTY on sale on Steam since and I'll probably get Arkham Knight now.
As Mace says I think you're thinking about AC2 as that's been generally viewed as the best all around AC game. I'd have to say its been my favorite too. Not just the setting and story but I found that AC2 had the best combat configuration and gameplay out of all of them. You have more control and more combat options and it flows well. AC3 combat is still pretty good but it felt like they tried to simplify it which is a mistake in my opinion. Though I love the setting of AC4, the combat mechanics really took a dump in my opinion. I don't know what they were thinking because it made it too arcade like and not enough puppeteering control and options like in AC2. Wish they would have kept a "classic" type combat schemed for folks to use. I hope they go back in the right direction with Unity.
Had enough from selling those things on the marketplace to buy AC2. Then I pulled old stuff I had before, relisted and made another almost $5. I love this stuff. LOL I guess you accumulate these things as you play the games and get achievements? I've sold all of the cards for purchases too.
Get them while the getting is good! Looks like they drop pretty quickly from that >.20 range. Might even get me playing some of these sale games I never get around to. To buy more sale games to not get around to. LOL
Yeah, I was just coming to mention Assetto Corsa. I wasn't bothered before, especially being so disappointed with rFactor 2, but for this price, I think I'll have it.
I actually play everything I buy. Yeah I'm crazy like that.
I meant selling the cards, they seem to drop in value pretty fast.

Good deal on Assetto Corsa. If you have a wheel, it's a must.
Or in a couple of weeks a thread on what did you buy vs what have you played for more than 5 hours. I see lots of games in the SimHQ group that get played for less than an hour. (I'm guilty too)

Unfortunately, some games don't take more than that to finish! CoD 4 and WaW are two I can recall. Homefront as well IIRC.
Grabbed Assassins Creed Black Flag. That pirate stuff is too hard to resist. Also Bioshock Infinite, which I've started and am really enjoying. If I still had my wheel setup, I would surely have latched onto Arsetto Corso, too. Some good stuff. Had a hard time deciding.

Thanks for the tip, still haven't played it yet. Trying to finally beat far cry 3 first.
I think it's about number of games owned, # of years on steam(?), achievements in games (?), cards from playing games, participating in sales and other events, sign up for the hardware beta and steam group (even if not chosen or chosen yet), do community ambassador tasks:
Not sure other than that. It just worked out on it's own for me. I don't know what's considered good or eligible for what though. I sold off all game related cards though, doesn't seem to remove XP giving up the cards.
so i gave in and bough splinter cell black list whatever edition, metro 2033 just to get the cheaper updated version, metro last light, payday 2 and payday heist, rome 2 and afew dlcs, assassin creed black fag and assassin creed black flag, i stood on the fence forever with payday i tried the free weekend but while okay seemed too repettive dril this drill that, but steam kept lowering its price throughout the week so at 10 bucks i decied what the heck ?? also got age of empires 2 hd with 3 complete, dishonored complete and tropico 4 complete
now im on the fence if i get the new wargame in promo or wait next year, i'm far from even beggining airland, but i already surpassed in 30 bucks my limitation of expending only 100 $ tops in steam sale.
Picked up Borderlands 2: GOTY, hopefully get in some coop with anyone here. Feel free to add me in Steam, same username.
On a related note, I have some spare copies of Borderlands 2 I picked up during the sale. If anyone missed the sale and want a copy of it for $5 (what I paid) then send me a PM.
I won't be playing it myself any time soon. At least I do not think so. I might give it a go in SP to before I ever go online.
assassin creed black fag and assassin creed black flag
Wait, what? LOL
On Payday, it isn't easy solo. Try the jewelry store heist on easy without setting off alarms. Very rewarding. It's a lot better with a group, but still hard. Some go for speed, we always tried for as much stealth as possible, or at least a quick exit before a crazy firefight.
ACBF has a very long training. Even after you think you're in the game, you're still training. Very cool when it opens up for travel and ship battles along the way though.
Training ? you mean tutorial mission ? How do you do stealth in payday 2 anyway ? i tried forever during the free weekend but still had to resort to violence. the game is really lacking in documentation
oh and black fag i meant the slave guy dlc, from the trailer it seems like a emo story.
i added whoever asked for borderlands 2, im trying to start the game, but most players are level 15 and up. and i got all dlcs.....borderlands is boring and sterile on your own.

Probably was me, accepted your request.
You might want to join the 'SimHQ' group on Steam as well, will help you find other players on this site.
A few of us just started characters in B2 so we are low level as well. I think I am level 5 or 6 now.
7 Days to Die has actually turned out really addictive, even though I'm not always sure what I'm doing and I have died LOTS!
I managed to survive my first night earlier, with nothing at all in my inventory and crazied Zeds running past just a few feet away. Just crouch, don't move, and wait for the Sun to come up!
...then get torn to shreds by a zomboid Dobermann whilst you were looking the other way...

It isn't easy. You need to build up skills and quickly get the one that gives you more zipties to handcuff the people in the store. If you have to take out a guard, you have a few seconds to answer the radio call to say everything is ok, but you can only do that once until you unlock a skill that allows you to do that more. Keep everyone down and out of sight of those on the street, don't let anyone out. It isn't easy with the AI teammates since they follow you. With humans, they can stand guard and deal with anyone on the street while one guy works the inside masked up. This video came out bad due to audio issues, but this is Mojoflow, Feetwet and I running the jewelry store. Probably the easiest mission to run like this.
Are the sales ending today? It seems like the 29th is the "last day" of the sale despite it saying 19-30... I would've thought the 30th would be the last day.
Ending tomorrow, but what's up now is the last batch. Over in about 17 hrs.
Some really good ones this time. I think I bought a couple of stinkers, after firing them up, but at least they were cheap. Mainly some good buys. Finally got in on Planetary Annihilation cheap, and another one called Meridian New World that looks pretty good.
Already bought the pack with Skyrim + DLCs for ~30 about two weeks ago (beofre the sale started...) and raked up ~200h and counting (but whoever designed the PC UI...).
I got me Metro Last Light + DLCs on Saturday, for ~10. Right now the sale is in its final hours, with the topsellers (Payday, Metro, ...) on a special discount again.
edit: can have mp game if you want sometime Chucky as I'm useless too and perhaps we can learn as we go lol
That could be on,just give me a while to get used to it.The AI even on the easiest setting is quite brutal so I'm not getting too far atm. Don't know what half the stuff does.
As usual I bought more games than I have time, but hopefully I'll manage to at least try them all and decide which to spend my time on

I tried it,being a big South Park fan but after an hour I found it went downhill and I lost interest.Button mashing isn't my favourite thing either. It does look exactly like the show and for that first hour it kept me entertained. Also, even in the sale it's not exactly cheap.
I would check out some reviews and gameplay vids just to be sure.
It's an RPG. It's too new for them to have given it a significant discount. I'm waiting for the November sale, by then it will likely be $30 or less and worth it.
The reviews I've heard all say it's both true to South Park and an excellent RPG even if you're only casually acquainted with the show (but find it funny!) If you don't find SP funny, don't bother because it's JUST like the show.
Meridian: New World ........really cool, great looking RTS, kind of like SW:EAW on the ground with mechs. Great find. Metro Last Light Complete ......won't play until finish the first game Assassin's Creed II: Deluxe Edition ......still have to try it Sleeping Dogs Collection .......still have to try it, had to dl the HD packHIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Like Mafia 2/GTA, but more redeeming, gorgeous and excellent sense of style (Hong Kong). Fighting is very well done. Saints Row IV ........still have to try it Company of Heroes ......still have to try it Planetary Annihilation Early Access .....still have to try it Dark Souls .....meh so far Fallout 3 and all DLC .....pretty good so far, hope the fixes work Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning ......meh so far Borderlands 2 Game of the Year ......fun with co-op
All the games I wanted didn't go to my set price to buy them at. Arma 3, RTW2, Walking Dead S1... I only bought "Brothers" for my kids. See you on Black Friday!
This is one for the record books for me. Bought a lot:
The Cursed Crusade (pretty to look at/fun sword play) Fallout 3 (Haven't tried the pc version yet and hope it works as I have windows 7 and apparently it has issues with that) The First Templar (Really liking this one so far. Okay graphics and decent sword play. Nice voice acting and story. A little rough but one of those games you can tell has a lot of heart and a lot of love went into making it) Lego Marvel Super Heroes (silly fun) Next Car Game (runs a bit rough but the damage physics are great) Timeshift (haven't tried it yet) Wargame: European Escalation (haven't tried it yet)
And I was gifted:
Battlestations: Pacific (haven't tried it yet) Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon (haven't tried it yet) Witcher 2 which I was able to gift again
Good sale for me, I bought more recently released games for a decent discount than old games for dirt cheap.
Games recently released that I waited patiently hoping they would get Steam Sale discount... (saved 33-66% for waiting just a couple of months for sale instead of buying on release): 1. Dark Souls 2 - good hardcore ARPG so far, much better console port than DS1 2. Age of Wonders 3 - good Civ/M&M Heroes game so far 3. Divinity Original Sin - good hardcore RPG so far 4. Rome Total War 2 DLC (Julius Caesar and Hannibal at the Gates) - more campaigns and units woohoo
Cheap Steam Sale games I bought because of the dirt cheap price: 5. Borderlands 2 GOTY - picked up to co-op with SimHQ friends 6. Fallen Enchantress Legendary Heroes - picked up to try with mods 7. Space Empires V - picked up to try with mods
Also got a couple of nice gifts, thanks guys! will return the favor sometime!
I bought very few things, the most significant being Wolfenstein NO for $30. The rest of my purchases were DLC on sale for Batman, Rome II, Metro LL, Aliens: CM, and a couple of other things I can't remember that add up to less than the $30 for Wolfenstein! So I spent less than $60, or one game price, for multiple things.
Oh, and I got gifted a couple of DLC as well, which was unexpected and appreciated!
I am now suffering my first bout of post-Steam Summer Sale angst. I should have bought X-Com for 5 bucks. I should have, I should have! However, Batman: Arkham City is proving to be superb fun, even though I am absolutely inept at it (oh, X:Com and your turn-based combat!).
Batman: Arkham City is proving to be superb fun, even though I am absolutely inept at it
You'll get the hang of it. It's a long ride, but well worth the trouble. Great game. I love the combat system. Love being able to hide, swoop, kick the crap outta a few guys, escape from a mob, regroup, repeat.
As I mentioned earlier, most of what I bought was candy:
Don't Starve - Fun little diversion FTL: Faster Than Light - I really like this one. Old school computer game style. Rogue Legacy - Hard platformer, but fun. Nintendo-y. I have been compelled to keep playing it. LEGO Marvel - Haven't loaded it yet, but I like LEGO Star Wars with my kid. Castle Crashers - Haven't loaded it yet. Looks silly. Paid $1.50 on a whim from selling cards Blockland - for my kid who loves LEGOS. Trine, Trine2, Shadowgrounds, Survivor - Frozenbyte pack
...and some more substantial stuff:
Upgraded Skyrim and Dishonored to include all DLC Deus Ex:HR - Stealth shooter with superhuman perks. How can I go wrong? Borderlands 2 - Always been curious.
Checked out at just under my $60 budget. This ought to keep my busy for a while
Yeah I am getting post steam sale angst as well. I was good and only purchased one title (which I have completed) and am now asking myself "why did I not purchase those other titles I wanted."
Ohh well, there will be another sale and maybe those titles will be a little cheaper. At the end of the day I have enough with real life and current games to keep me going.... (I must keep reminding myself of that )
Thanks Arthur. I'm getting the hang of glide kicks and ground takedowns, or whatever, now. Still no idea what to do with the riddler's traps. It is really cool being Batman, and the dynamic music is great.
Sorry, I might have asked this before but it is still obscure to me: I keep reading "I was gifted" this and that. Well, I have hundreds of games on Steam and I was never gifted anything by Steam. How does it work, precisely?
i guess it was by points ? last year sale, i got crazy and bought lots of game, and received a free magika.....or maybe they mean gifted by other users, kinda like trading.
Yeah I was gifted stuff by steam friends not steam itself. I earned a bunch of trading/sale adventure crap that I then just resold for change to build up my steam wallet.
I was there for games not to buy games only to receive cards to play another fake game of hid and seek and crafting crap to maybe get three free games from steam. I don't think I'd have the energy anyways to figure it out and certainly not the desire.
Totally agree PanzerMeyer. I'm liking this game so much I just preordered both Metro: 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux for $37.98 off Steam. It was pretty sweet that Steam still knocked 25% off the preorder even though I only paid $6.98 for Metro Last Light on the summer sale. Cheers

There's a lot of gaming there. In other news, I've almost finished Fallout 3 and DLC from the last sale, soon be time for New Vegas (and two Batman games, and FC3, etc etc etc lol)
Redux will be out so soon it is silly to play the old ones now if you plan on getting them. I'm just getting 2033 Redux, so I bought the DLC for LL to play now.
I spent a lot of time in the 2 Fallouts and their DLCs, not nearly as much time in Batman: AO as it's a smaller game, but still longer than either Metro which are more traditional FPS games. Actually, B:AO reminds me of FC3 a lot in how you unlock parts of the island on your map by taking towers, except some of them are really hard to do in Batman while in FC3 they're all pretty much the same difficulty.
I got the previous Batman : Arkham City but haven't played it yet, I'll be doing that when I finish the Metro: LL DLC.
Oh yeah, I'm still playing AC4, almost forgot that one.
