Hot natured or cold natured?

I've always wondered why it seems that certain people always feel cold and other people feel hot. As for me, I'm one of the "hot natured" people. It can be 70 degrees outside but if I'm doing any kind of physical activity, I start sweating soon afterwards. People have commented that my hands always feel like hot water bottles.

Anyone know the biological reasons behind what causes this? For as long as I can remember, I've always been highly susceptible to feeling hot.

At the other end of the spectrum, I've noticed that a lot of women tend to be cold natured and always complaining about it being freezing cold.

Because I'm hot blooded, check it and see. Got a fever of hundred and three..

Yes, this is the reason behind the renown thermostat wars between men and women. Men always want it colder, women always want it warmer. I prefer it cold. If I get too cold, I can always put on a sweater or sweatshirt. If I get too hot, I could go commando and still be hot. And, I cannot sleep if it's too hot. Just can't. Cold, hey bundle up, cuddle up, whatever. But hot cannot be defeated.

My wife will look outside and if it looks cold and blustery, the thermostat goes up five degrees. I've tried logic, hey, it's out there, not in here. Which leads to nothing but more thermostat wars.

At my old job, we had one secretary, sorry, office assistant, female, who sat at her desk with a blanket and a portable flame thrower. Uh, heater. She would go and raise the room thermostat to 87 degrees, at which point my former associate would sweat buckets and turn it down to 67. And so it went.

Oh, and this same woman would go out to her car in the desert summer heat, when it was about 105 degrees F, and get in the car and just sit. Inside the car temps in that situation had to be about 130 degrees or more. Go figure.

lol I'm exactly the same way too...I'd rather have it on the chilly side than too hot; especially when working. I'd rather have to wear a sweater and gloves than have it be 80+ deg. and sweating, dehydrated, and miserable

I went through those thermostat wars all the time when I was married. Now? I can have it set at 70F all day long if I want. Muhuhuhaha!

Since I've been a kid - I have always had 'cold feet'; unless the ambient temp. is at least 70F - my feet are freezing!

I think I'm temperate natured

I think it has to do with heart rate but that's just an opinion.

I can adjust to either hot or cold within reason. HOWEVER when its 23F outside with 20 mph winds and the kids get cabin fever... that isn't reasonable. We went outside and ended up throwing big chunks of ice in the stream for entertainment. My girl (3 y/o) bailed quickly but my son hung on for longer than I had hoped he would.

If my wife expressed to me that she was cold...I would suggest a scenario for creating a cozy enviroment. Unfortunately my wife is hot natured. Getting it on with her is like that squirrel from Ice Age chasing the nut. It's always right there but he just can't get it.

Interesting thing, the heart rate idea. Would a slow heart rate make you cold-natured or hot-natured? I remember going for my pre-separation physical while in the army, and after a 10-minute walk to the hospital in the middle of the day and maybe 15 minutes waiting my pulse was 44 (which got me sent up for an EKG.) Anyway, I guess I'm very warm-natured, because when I get chilly I turn the heat UP to 68 (it's normally at 60), and if it's warmer than 60 inside when I go to bed I find it too hot to sleep. If I do mildly physical work (like changing truck tires) in anything more than pants & a t-shirt sweat will be running down my face even if the air temp is in the low 50s. When going on runs in the wintertime while in the army, I'd have frost & ice on the outside of my hat & sweats due to sweat freezing. If summertime NEVER got about 65-70 I'd be perfectly happy.

I keep the house at 68F in the winter.

Hot-natured... the longer I stay awake. If I go through 24 hours without sleep only a direct ice bath can make me feel cold.

cold-natured when I over sleep. I noticed this when I'm depressed and sleep a lot, I easily get the shivers.

Always cold, so I prefer if the room temperature is on the warm side - say 23, 24 degrees. I have high blood pressure - runs in the family - so I take medicine. One of the side effects is that the extremities always are cold - my hand and feet are always cold.

But yes, it's easier to shield against cold than against heat.

I shift between the two, When I am awake, I can stand any amount of cold. But when I go to sleep I bundle up and cocoon as much as I can and seem to need it since I sleep cold. I guess it goes back to body rhythems. It is like my body goes into stasis when it sleeps and I then get cold. But once I awake it comes back on and the cold doesn't bother me. I was like this in the military and found that sleeping was always a problem since I would get cold. Nothing worse than cold and wet trying to sleep. I really hated the 6 weeks of Northern Warfare training in Alaska. Heat can make you uncomfortable, but cold kills. I am done with the freezing cold and snow.

I prefer the warmer climates. Never planned on living in Florida, but found it agrees with me. I can ride my motorcycle year round.

My perfect weather is 78, sunny with broken clouds and a very mild breeze.

One of the reasons is the ratio of body surface to body volume. Generally, the smaller a body, the higher its surface/volume ratio. Since you loose heat via your body surface, a small body looses heat much easier then a larger body. That's why you have to store babies in layers and layers of clothing during winter, they would loose body heat very quickly if not insulated properly. There are other factors that I can't recall right now but this is one of the more important ones.

Must be cold natured. I love the heat, if it's too hot outside, turn on a fan, find a shade tree, slow down, slip into a creek or lake, hit a dark air conditioned bar. Lot's of options.

If it's too cold, going inside is about the only option I can think of.
