1999 Graphics - 11/15/17 10:12 AM

AKA the Screenshot thread!

I'm usually too busy practicing whatever it is I'm practicing to really care about graphics or taking screenshots, but I've just been amazed at the awesome "1999 graphics" that people are showing over in the Falcon BMS forums. Here's a few of them:

OMG!! How can this even pass testing? The guy-in-back's arms are totally puffy!! How can anyone enjoy this game? Credit to ChrisBV

Do these guys even fly BMS or just putter around with graphics settings and ReShade options? Damn!! A lot of those are wallpaper-quality level! I also envy those that can spot a good camera angle; I don't have that skill at all. Please feel free to post your own screenshots to showcase BMS' "1999 graphics"!

You know me and my humor smile

I never used to bother with the BMS screenshot thread as I was thinking "meh, they're only pictures" but that "1999 graphics" statement prompted me to have a look and, well, you can see the results. I never bother to take screenshots anyway as I don't like that half-second pause and with my 5896x1080 resolution, the sides all look stretched and while it's okay when viewing in with my peripheral vision, it just looks wrong on a static image.

Ice,is this what you get with a std BMS install or are there further add-ons to make the game look this bad?

It's been a long time since I played BMS,probably 2 years or more.

You people still play that?

Times are tough eh?

1999 called, it wants it's graphics back.

Chucky, two add-ons are in these shots anyway. The shots credited to Nacy are the Ostee add-on theater (different terrain). The one credited to ChrisBV is the Israel theater add-on (two-seat Viper with conformal tanks F-16I ).

As I understand, these are JanHas skins and models - Clicky HERE
For the terrain/environment, these are add-on theatres such as Ostsee, Balkans, and Israel.

Yeah, the struggle is real, DBond! This is what you get when playing with a hackjob simulator biggrin

LOL, @ Ice.

Yes thanks, Balkans is second credit to slains.

My Falcon looks like this and the only add-ons I've installed are theaters.

Speaking of addons, have you guys seen the work that Burak has done? Love this sim.

Tomcatz put together a Ostsee theater using JanHas models. He somehow manages to put in tons of objects for a nice theater to fly leisurely in. Here are some un-doctored photos.

I'm thinking in '99 we'd be eatin' corn out of someones poop to get graphics like this. Tom does really great work, but if I had to make a criticism, he uses a little too much green on the ground and a bit too much purple in his clouds.

Re: 1999 Graphics - 11/16/17 10:00 AM

Nice one! I've not tried the Ostsee theatre yet but gawk at the pictures. Do all those buildings show up in TGP? Can you target/destroy them too?

I agree, the area is a bit too fertile... some brown patches would be great. Also, it looks wonderful in good weather, I wonder how that terrain looks like on an overcast or worse weather or on a different time of day?

I am often surprised by how nice this game looks...

Yeah, you can see all the objects on the TGP. I haven't flown it much, so not sure what it looks like in all weather conditions.

How's this for camera angle???

Wingtip vortex included for DBond!

Thanks! Might be time for me to install the other theatres again.

Re: 1999 Graphics - 11/16/17 07:51 PM

If you're going to add theaters, may I suggest Ikaros and Nordic theaters. They look pretty good also. A lot of theaters were released since 4.33.
Posted By: - Ice

Re: 1999 Graphics - 11/16/17 09:13 PM

Duly noted! Have you tried the campaigns on any of them? All theatres do have campaigns, right?
Posted By: schnidrman

Re: 1999 Graphics - 11/16/17 11:04 PM

Some do, some are WIP duh

Kuriles and Nordic do for sure. I don't know about the Ikaros and Ostsee theaters. I think I'm past due for an update on those.

Re: 1999 Graphics - 11/17/17 01:08 AM

Hey there, i am registered at www.bmsforum.org BenchMark Simulations. After I sign in all i get is a few anouncements
on the forum and that is is 9 threads, none about 4.33 and no pictures. all messages to staff get ignored also, so this is the most I have seen
of their forum ever.

In fact I registered at a few places good ol SImhq.com was the livliest with the best AARs and what not.

It took me a year or 2 to fire up F4 and I would come by here & not much happening, now I see 5-25 people
in Falcon 4 just reading. Since Steam and GOG started selling F4, there has been a ton of old heads coming back (myself) or
youngsters trying to learn, bottom line a lot of new folks in F4 BMS.

Regarding the 5 or 6 posts, i was gettin a dbase error when i tried to post 5 times and when I goto my posts,
none of them show up so I can not delete them. An Admin said he was trying but they were stuck, so he
so far has not been able to either, it may take till nest time the site is down & restarted, i do not know, sorry all.

If this post goes up, I may be able to try a new thread but I do not need to make it any messier than it is.....
Anyway as far as visual quality goes this stuff is beautiful, some tanks and objects was down lo are a little ruff
but once u are flying, I forget it is a sim, it looks real. The boring terrain above, covered with bldgs is frickin awesome.
I think Korea being flattish had a lot to do with 1998 video cards and 32 bit OS & SIM, with all the RAM we have now
we can afford a lot more bldgs. On the other hand who feels like spending a few years fill in Korea, on the Other hand if the
owners of F4 came out with a new version with terrain full of real bldgs and new models I would spend some cash, no problem.

At dusk, when the lights start coming on even flat 1998 Korea looks great.

Re: 1999 Graphics - 11/22/17 03:33 AM

Update: The newest version of Ikaros has a campaign. It's set up like a Red v. Blue NATO training Op w/ live ordinance.

The Nordic theater comes with a Cold War Version along with the Regular version (which includes 5th gen. stuff), so it's like one theater w/ two genre. The cold war version even comes with a 3D pit (clickable)for the F-104G Starfighter. thumbsup

Re: 1999 Graphics - 01/14/18 02:46 PM

A couple fun missions last night. First was interdiction against some armor. They weren't in a column, so my ripple of 4 CBU-87 only netted a couple kills. It was my first time with CBU-105. Didn't realize they were PGM until I'm the cockpit. Got a kill with one, but crossed over the target area at about 10k and got popped with something. Lost my MFDs. It made me realize I need to brush up on TACAN used with the HSI. I followed ATC vectors back toward base for a while, but got bored and left...

Next flew a very short strike against a bridge. We blasted the crap out of it. On the way back, I ordered wingman to RTB and had fun flying in formation with him, all the way to touch down!

I've gotten to a point where I need to start selecting some more challenging missions where my own incompetence is not the only threat. Maybe some A2A and SEAD type stuff. Also need to learn more about radios, navigation, and probably refueling...

Re: 1999 Graphics - 01/14/18 02:53 PM

Oh. And I forgot...

That first shot is a testament to the immersion this sim can spring on you unexpectedly. Jumped into the pit to see some SAMs blasting off right in front of me. Wish I would have been quicker with the screenshot capture and caught the massive fireball and missile lifting off. They arced off behind me as I took off. Never saw if they got anything...

Re: 1999 Graphics - 01/14/18 04:03 PM

I recommend getting TacView and start ACMI recording of your flights. It'll show you what got you and from where. If you think you have SA now, TacView will show you more smile
