Haven't played that much lately but it seems the last couple of updates make it ALOT harder for an US sub skipper to live and win. Serious ganging up on poor little me. Probably good because the last campaign I completed I had almost 1 MIllion tons of shipping sunk!

edit: Sorry only document-able to over 600k tonnes.

Nixer,

Not sure if you used it but the playable sims mod evens it out a little as the game has got harder. It's on Github and easy to install.

Yeah, thanks I am using that Mod.

The bad guys sure aren't sitting ducks anymore. Subs launch 2 and 3 torp spreads back at you if you are detected firing on them. Surface groups shoot everything in the book at you.

Quite fun now, if I can live long enough to enjoy it. biggrin

I was real proud of myself as I had killed off two small SSGN groups and was turning to head west N. of Iceland to go home and re-arm. Out of nowhere comes a large battle group, A Moskva, a Udaloy, and a Kresta II. Just to make it more interesting, and no doubt more realistic they had a Vic III with them!

There were NUMEROUS torps in the water, helos dropping torps, those pesky SS-N things and the VIC II was spamming the damn things! I lived, barely, 28% hull, flooding and being stalked by a surviving helo for an hour while I tried to limp out of there.

FWIW, I am carrying TEN (10) MOSS's when I leave port now.

Any good YouTube gameplay videos? Been a SH3 fan but never really got to enjoy SH4 or SH5, but I remember when playing SH3 thinking how cool it would be to play with modern subs and do something like Hunt for Red October.

If your into SSN, then Dangerous Waters is for you, check Steam. Works with W10 too and has mod to date (ReinForce Alert). Last version I have is v1.43. CrazyIvan (modder) is Russian, so you might find some post in Russian...
ReinForce Alert Mod

ThereĀ“s also a Discord channel were people meet for multiplayer events. The sim is well alive still.

Hope to get this one at some point. Aren't they coming out with some new subs and map for free?

Yes Coot, South China Sea campaign and couple of new US subs. Seawolf and Virginia class from memory.

They've just added neutral shipping and oil rigs in recent update, plus numerous cosmetic and gameplay improvements.

Lots of development going on with this game. My most played game of recent years.

You'll be glad you did.

The enemy AI is a whole lot better it seems to me, along with better (tougher) vessel mixes.

Still alive in my latest campaign, another Red Storm rising free roam. A couple of close calls, but I haven't lost a boat at least. Great fun this afternoon in a few engagements. The last one was pretty tough, some kind of 2 amphib landing force with a different escort.

Got most of them but the 2 Alpha's that appeared when I did an active sonar search trying to get a fix on the one I finally damaged. (Sea lance, I didn't have anything else left!)

Fun way to spend a chilly afternoon.
