well thanks... 13 post and you trust my opinion, lol...closet Simmer r u? lol/ jk

First one was great, can find it real cheap now-a-days... worth it to test out.

FC2 was beautiful and great looking, game play was terrible... terrible weapon feel, bad guys respawning over and over, just poor gameplay design with ALOT of potential that never happened... IMO... hopefully they learned for FC3. wink

I just like to "read" more than I post..........LOL

I may look for the first one.......just to try. Just saw the videos and it looks great. I like open style go anywhere stuff. Too few fps games are well done in that way.

Thanks for the post.

I think FC2 could have been one of the best games ever, if they would just release the freaking SDK!!! That game modded could have been soooo much more; and I don't even mean graphics or "eye candy" mods (IMO it looked just as good if not better than BF3)...just being able to tweak the AI, weapons, and some gameplay elements could have made it like a new game.

So sad...
Not buying the 3rd unless they plan to allow the modding community to actually do something with the game.

Don't bother looking at Far Cry 1. It has no bearing on FC2 or FC3 as it was done by Crytek, makers of Crysis and Crysis 2. FC2 was done by Ubi in-house and I believe the same for FC3. So while it appears they want to make FC3 look like the first game, my gut says it will play more like the 2nd one. So, if you liked FC2, you should like FC3, maybe more. If you hated it, I don't think you'll like FC3.

Re: Far Cry 3... - 12/03/11 01:43 AM

All 3 games are entirely different. FC1 was nice, but FC2 was better IMO. It just had no mods and an annoying bad guy spawn system... the story was rather weak as well, but it was a nice arcade shooter that was open ended.

FC3 looks to be more close ended like FC1 (still open, think of Crysis), but with a lot of swearing. I have a feeling it won't be as good as FC2...

Love FC2, I think it's an excellent game. Repetitive with the checkpoints, but still pretty amazing. A lot of games could learn something from it. In SP that is, not MP other than the map editor on console.
Plus it turns up dirt cheap on steam sales on a regular basis, easily worth it for the asking price.

Been playing it (FarCry2) and you are right RawKryptonite, a very amazing game. BUT toooooooo repetitive! Those never ending jeeps! LOL

But an open environment and the choices are great. Weps could be a little MORE effective. Many games could learn from it.

Having fun in the New Year.

You're using the bus system and the river boats, right? I also went cross country where possible, the roads just make you jeep bait.

Pity they didn't put an engine on the hang glider, firing rocket launcher from a microlight would have been very cool.

Re: Far Cry 3... - 01/03/12 02:22 PM

I was going to say they needed more vertical range. The problem was unlike FC1 you never were that high to start with, so you couldn't get very far before you hit the ground.

I think FC2's issues were all the more glaring because of how enjoyable the rest of it was. I mean, I have over 80 hrs in just 2 playthroughs, and you don't put that kind of time into a game that you don't want to finish.

I have the "All-Inclusive-Lifetime-Mass-Transit-Coupon/Booklet".....LOL. Best way to evade everything! Crosscountry AND use the railroad tracks a lot!
The other thing I would change.........the ability to pass-through checkpoints controlled by faction you are working for. The hostile checkpoints I can see fighting through. Jeep Patrols would be similar......friendly and/ or hostile.
Same when visiting your buddy, or the doctor for medicine. Should not have to fight you way in.Or maybe could bribe your way through a checkpoint? A diamond?

I finished FC 2 not that long ago and I really enjoyed it except for 2 things,

1. Constantly respawning AI checkpoints

2. The game dragged on for far too long. It took me close to 40 hours to finish it. If I play it again I'll just do the story-driven missions and won't bother with the bonus stuff. Heck, it took me less time to finish Mass Effect 2 and that's an RPG!

These are both fair comments, I think it comes down to the way it is played as well. On the first playthrough I skipped 90% of the side missions because I was playing on Easy (I had my reasons) and didn't need extra diamonds or upgrades.

I've gone back and played it on Hard setting since, and especially if not trying to get through game, just doing 30 minutes here and there, and experimenting with all the different ways of smoking out the AI, definitely get money's worth.

Or accidentally dying in the fire I started to ambush a convoy duh

This is a minor point but I found the hang gliders to be pretty much useless in the game. There was even one that was placed on a large rock which was only about 10 feet off the ground. LOL

What's a "handglider"? hahaha

ps. I thought there were a couple of places in FarCry where hang gliders were useful...

In Far Cry, yes.

In Far Cry 2, no. They needn't have bothered with them.

LOL Oops, thanks for seeing my typo. It's fixed now.

I may have missed some hang gliders in FC 2 but of the ones I came across, they really weren't put in high enough spots to use effectively and like Jedi Master mentioned, the hang gliders in the first FC were indeed very useful since they were usually placed on top of very high mountain peaks.

Re: Far Cry 3... - 01/10/12 09:03 PM

FC2 just didn't have very high mountains. Seeing as it was a fictional location, there's no reason they couldn't have had one decent range on one of the 2 maps.
