Missions suddenly end.

Missions suddenly end. - 08/14/17 09:09 PM

Hello all,
I have Wings Over Flanders Fields Ultimate Edition patched to 4.15. Up until recently, I have been able to fly this sim using my moderate graphics card using default shaders with mid to low graphics settings. While the sim had occasional stutters and such, it did run rather smoothly and I enjoyed flying it. Recently, I upgraded my graphics card to a Nvidia GTX660-DC2. WOFF is now like a whole new sim. I am able to use the DX9 Enhancement Shaders which are really mind blowing. My FPS are between 65 to 110 and the sim runs really smooth with no stutters. I especially enjoy the cockpit shake effect. Anyway, every once in a while, when I am flying, the mission suddenly ends (usually after about ten minutes) and I am redirected to the Mission End/ details screen which tells me I ended the mission while still flying and the details are logged into my dossier. As I stated, this only happens once in a while, but it is somewhat annoying. Does anyone know what is causing this and if there is a possible fix? Enjoying the heck out of WOFF but I hate when this happens.

Are you running any mods? If a mod is the culprit, I suggest the following: deactivate them all and then try running WOFF to see if the problem recurs. If it doesn't then reactivate one mod at a time and continue testing.
It's a tedious suggestion but a worthwhile one to isolate if the problem is in WOFF or somewhere else.

Robert,
Thank you for the response and suggestions. However, I am not running any mods, just the DX9 Enhancement Shaders. As I said, this problem occurs infrequently. Maybe once in seven missions. I can live with this I suppose but if someone could offer a fix or solution, I would greatly appreciate it.

Let me offer something else worth checking out. You may want to verify that your CPU or GPU is not overheating. There are various tools out there that will monitor the temps. I had a similar problem until I added a water cooler to my rig. Not saying...Just suggesting!

Re: Missions suddenly end. - 08/14/17 11:20 PM

Two other possibilities, either which may be related to getting a new graphics card:

1) excessive heat. Try taking the case off and directing air on to the mb.
2) inadequate power supply. Perhaps your new card is putting a strain on your power supply. Disconnect one or more peripherals to see if the problem goes away.

I had a similar problem a free years ago with intermittent crashes that went away only after I upgraded my power supply.

Good point about the power supply thumbsup

Re: Missions suddenly end. - 08/15/17 12:48 AM

I too have had this in the past few months. I started enabling/disabling mods trying to isolate it and could not.
Since then Windows 10 has been updated, video drivers have been updated, TrackIR has been updated, been flying with a different pilot...

Don't know but I've not seen the issue recently.

My issue was not hardware related, no hardware changes have been made since I built my system.
I did not have the problem for a long time, had the problem for a short time, and now do not have the problem.

Some solace in knowing that you are not alone, but little help otherwise.

Best of luck.

Thanks for all the advice fellas. Before I had this graphics card installed, I made sure to upgrade the power supply. As far as the graphics card goes, it has two cooling fans and was advertised to have a DirectCU that achieves 20% lower temps with twice the dissipation area and 6X greater airflow than conventional design. So I figure it is just some glitch that I am going to have to deal with from time to time.

I experience the same problem (ca 10% of my flights crash to debriefing screen). I have some suspection but to confirm my theory, I need to check your log files. Can you send them to me the next time it happen? Log files are located in OBD Software/WOFF/Logs folder. Thank you.

Re: Missions suddenly end. - 08/15/17 02:51 PM

Seamus,
I am a bit late to this party and may be wrong but it sounds similar to a problem some folks were having a while back. Have you set compatibility to window's 8 or 7? This is covered in the FAQ I believe. Worth a try anyway.

Re: Missions suddenly end. - 08/15/17 04:40 PM

I am running Windows 8 but I did not know there was a way to set the simulations compatibility to it. I will go look in FAQ to see how it is done.

Just got kicked out in the thick of the fight, Pfalz E III vs. Nieup 10 in autumn 1915. I think the Pfalz E III is superior to the Fokker E I (though it's not as stable as a gun platform) and on even terms with the Nieup 10. Would those upper wings have tolerated the dive ...? Heck, i'll never know.

I just got back into WOFF, with Ultimate Edition, and was abruptly dumped out of my mission. Would the logs still help?

Re: Missions suddenly end. - 09/22/17 09:18 PM

This problem has been plaguing me for the last week or so. I've tried a full reinstall, disabled all my mods, it keeps randomly happening, in multiple different years/squadrons/situations, from 1915-1918.

I finally have a mission where this has happened that shows some error in the logs, specifically mission.log:

Code
2017/09/22 00:14:13 3138.937500	fps	45.703619	gpuMemAvail_megs	869.000000	virtMemUsed_megs	1370
2017/09/22 00:14:13 ERROR bad data for CxxThrowException

Any suggestions? This is getting beyond frustrating, I can't have a career where every 3rd/4th mission I get suddenly dumped out of the game.

I hope you kept the logs so they can be analyzed by support or someone here.

Yes, I have them. Who do I send them to? Do the devs look in here often?

Write to "support@overflandersfields.com". I wrote about this and got an immediate response from Polovski. He suspected CPU overheating or a CPU overtaxed by the settings. But he was not aware how widespread the issue seems to be. I'm deactivating all mods and reducing settings. If it reoccurs (which I expect it will) I will send the logs to both him and Jara for analysis.

Re: Missions suddenly end. - 09/23/17 10:25 AM

Do the fresh install, if nothing works and, still having problems.
Using the RW backup tool first to backup the campaign, pilots and adjustments.
Delete Woff, Woff does have an de-instal function included.
Delete the Woff by register cleaning, this register tool can be found in the OBDmaps which is still availible
Delete every leftover from Woff on your pc.

Reinstall Woff
Load skins, music and update to the last version
Restore the woff settings using the backup tool.

In my case, I still suspect, despite using JS swaptool, still leftovers from mods are conflicting.

edit and do read the FAQ as can be found here.

Re: Missions suddenly end. - 09/23/17 11:47 AM

Dutch mod leftovers will not be the cause of your problem if you did the recommended WOFF procedure to remove WOFF completely.
If you understand how JSGME works you will realize this.

Once WOFF is reinstalled just don't activate your mods all at once. If you suspect a mod is the problem, only activate one and test with it and when you are sure you are not getting any failures then go add another mod and repeat the testing again....

My recommendation would be to not activate any mods until you have run WOFF for a long enough time to be sure there are no failures as your first exercise.

Best Regards

Re: Missions suddenly end. - 09/23/17 03:59 PM

Then please, tell us how does that JSGME tool work!
Posted By: Robert_Wiggins

Re: Missions suddenly end. - 09/23/17 04:23 PM

Dutch;

JSGME does a backup before implementing a mod. It stores the backups in a folder called "!Backup" which resides in your "MODS" folder.
The "!Backup" folder is a hidden folder so you won't see it unless you use windows explorer "Folder Options" to make the hidden files visible. I won't go into explaining in detail how to do this unless you need me to do so.

JSGME will then restore the contents of the "!Backup" folder back to your WOFF installation folders when you remove the mod from the active side of JSGME.

Does that help? If you need more details, just ask.

One mod was causing this when an airfield building was destroyed. Maybe someone knows which mod that was? I'd try updating that and see how you go since I had the same problem for a while and this fixed it for me.

Ace, that was fixed in the release of V2.6 of the "WOFF UE Consolidated Custom Airfields Mods Repository Folder" . To be specific it was the sub mod “WOFF UE 0 – Airfields – Models for Airfields by Panama Red” contained within the previously mentioned mod that had the problem.
Generally speaking, it is best just to update all the sub mods when a new version of "WOFF UE Consolidated Custom Airfields Mods Repository Folder" is released.

Cheers
