Another question about claims

Another question about claims - 01/02/19 10:07 PM

Hi All!

Just had a quick question about claims.

From what I understand (I may be wrong!) your claims will NOT be awarded if, for instance, you shoot down a Fokker D.VII F and report it as a Fokker D.VII, or if you shoot down an Albatros D.V and report it as an Albatros D.Va or a D.III. The trouble is, I can't distinguish between some of these aircraft in the middle of a fight! Would it be better to put down "Single Seater Type" if i'm unsure, or is that just as likely to be rejected? Also, does the game take into consideration where the enemy aircraft goes down (Allied lines, enemy lines, etc)?

Cheers!

Wulfe, the OFF/WOFF claims approval/disapproval system is a rich, luscious, enigma-covered ball of creamy puzzlement with a crunchy, frustration-filled center. Just when you think you have it sorted out, you haven't. All you can do, IMHO, is fill out as much of the information as best you can and pray the powers-that-be smile upon you, (in much the same way our RL counterparts did it a century ago).

If you get the identification wrong, it will only reduce your odds of getting the kill confirmed, but not make the claim impossible. If you get the right plane but miss the exact variant I believe WOFF will be not punish you too badly.

But then again, it might.

Wulfe, I have claimed the wrong variant and it has been confirmed. I have also claimed the right one and it was unconfirmed. I think Lou and Scout describes it perfectly. Only the shadow knows. I forgot who I was reading about. I think it was an American. He claimed a Hun machine and had a witness. It went up the chain and was never confirmed. Fog of war and all.

Oh - good to hear! Ok, thanks guys! Guess the 'single seater type' and 'two seater type' are just for when you have no clue what the hell you shot at (So - me most of the time wink )

I haven't seen the wrong type of aircraft make a huge difference. the lack of witnesses makes more of a difference in the end - because sometimes the game will give the correct aircraft and pilot name after the victory is confirmed.

historically, a lot of pilots simply declared that it was a one-seater or a two-seater because they couldn't be bothered to remember all of the different types of enemy machines. a German flight might well have three or four different types of aircraft in it... and when you're fighting for your life in a furball... you might not really care!

it also seems to depend on which service you're flying with. the French are, by far, the toughest for me to get victory confirmations from. Germany is a distant second by comparison. I've had some British pilots where literally every single claim I ever made got confirmed immediately. haven't really played too many American campaigns yet.

the best career for victory confirmations I've got going right now is a Sopwith Pup pilot who flew five missions, put in seven claims, and got all of them confirmed in barely six days of service at the front. he was born under a lucky star, I guess... because on his very first mission he narrowly avoided getting killed by Kurt Wolf and then shot down Lothar von Richthofen and another German pilot inside of five minutes of crossing the trenches. got the MC as soon as he landed back at the base. I think it could be awhile before I start a career off with that much good luck.

RAF_Louvert knows! I have had victims crash on my own field get denied. C'est la guerre!
