OT for WW1 combatflysim fans - 07/03/18 07:44 PM

For those just like me that are fan of WW1 flysim games, 1C did open a dedicated section for the Flying Circus game.

I do not know what to expect, while reading about overhauled RoF planes, done by an external company. I must admit, that the last planes in rof were also made by external company but did also contain lots of bugs, that never were been corrected or like the Roland were bad made. Lets hope that company has learned and will do the job much better.

I look forward to seeing what they come up with and I welcome any WWI flight sim if it is a high quality product. Hopefully it will be but only time will tell. Thankfully, WOFF UE continues to improve due to the passion of our modding community. In all honesty, I am more excited about the potential for WOFF UE to get retrofitted with a DX11 engine from AnKor. Imagine what it would look and run like with new shaders and even more work offloaded from the CPU to the GPU. Bright days ahead, no matter what.

Indeed this CFS3 game engine was highly limited by its CPU single core application, now this seems to be solved, nothing can keep this game down. I hope also Ankor can make this game engine to a 64bit application to get a further improvement on CPU load as I did noticed in BoS, so we could see massive bomber raids to Berlin in future versions.

Also I did got an demonstration 1,5 yr ago on the Rift when this was introduced and I did not get impressed. A couple of weeks ago, I got another VR demo and besides seeing the screen pixels, Wooow I was really impressed, next upgrade will be pure for Pimax 5or8k/Samsung Odyssey/HTC-pro/StarVR-5k or whatever high resolution VR is available in the Eurozone.
Yep VR is a very small and dying market and probably OBD would not sell more games, still I do hope OBD could implement this gadget, just like TrackIR5.

null. It will be just like the start of ROF...an MMP shootout game.

Dutch, why do you think VR ‘ is a small and dying market’? It may be developing slowly, but I have the impression that more and more simmers and gamers use it, and that consumer products like the Rift are increasingly used professionally, providing a base for the consumer market. A new generation of VR is being introduced (the Odyssey I believe, which you cannot buy in Europe). VR glasses are a significant investment, but I think that as more people experience them at trade shows and exhibitions and prices go down, the market will get bigger. I have flown some planes both in reality and in VR. If you have flown with VR, you never want to go back to a monitor, in my experience.

I do not have any sign that the whole VR is booming. Still no decent tripleA game and the develpment of the next gen VR seems to have stopped. I still see no Pimax 5-8k or StarVR glasses in the store. Also reading a article here that the VRset sales are dropped and why the Odyssey is not being released in Europe is also not a good omen.
I’m afraid VR is limited to a small market just like TrackIR5 . Do not get me wrong, I have experienced now, the VRset in combination with a good game, yep think it is great. If FC is completed I’m going for the VR upgrade.

I was at an lecture about VR and the future will be:
combination digital/real surroundings, so no shoebox
tactile sensoring, so you can from a distance handle things, like tactile gloves
mobile, it should be mobile and not hooked by wire on a big computer

Saw demo’s cleaning cleanroom training, medical operation were your hands control the robotic hands and fitness training like flying as an bird. Notice lots of opportunities for visualisation and training, but only for the profesional and euducation market.

Dutch, I can see your reasoning, but I think that when more people see what VR is and can do, the market will grow. I heard that a new version of the Rift is in development with a larger viewing angle but I don’t know whether this rumor is true. If equipment like the Rift is not suited for large markets, let’s hope that professional applications and the entertainment industry will generate enough demand for them to remain in development, even if they are to be sold at higher prices than today.
