Another new WOFF member - 02/26/18 06:13 PM

Hello Gentlemen

I have been a member of Sim HQ off and on for the last seven plus years under different screen names on various sites for different sims during those years. I’m not one to reaaly post a lot of messages on the various topics in threads of interest but enjoy reading what everyone had to say about anything to do with those other various sims and now subsequently WOFF. I am an old Flight Sim player stetching back to Red Baron, Red Baron II/3D, Wings of Glory, Etc...I just left playing Rise of Flight I/C with Pat Wilson’s campaign generator for single player campaigning, which was quite excellent that is until I purchased WOFF UE plus the aircraft skin download and Mat Milne’s great music for this Sim. This was around 6 months ago. I just want to say that this Sim is just lights out fantastic in every which way!! Those words just don’t do it justice. I find myself drawn to it like a moth to a flame every day always wanting more!! It’s the best sim out there as far as I’m concerned. I’m currently flying a campaign with 66 Sqdn in March 1917 and preparing to enter bloody April!! My pilot has been blooded and tasted victory 3 times during March, so I head into this upcoming month of April with much optimism of getting out alive relatively in one piece. I’m hoping to lift some ale in a pub with some mates on leave in London to regale one another, not so much as to our glorious victories but just how lucky we were to survive and continue on....As always I find great assistance from everyone here when reading posted threads on fixing issues; New Mods, wish lists etc to make WOFF even better..if that is even possible. The banter and sense of humour from everyone is quite top notch!! I look forward to reading and now partaking in discussions plus posting the odd thread. On that note Gentlemen I take leave of your fine company until the next time!!

Cheers!!

Welcome to the WOFF Ready Room sir!
Sounds like you have plenty of game experience already but, if you should have any questions, please ask away.
Plenty of like-minded fans here who love the sim (I sure do!) and are more then willing to give you a hand.
Again, a hearty Welcome aboard!

Re: Another new WOFF member - 02/26/18 07:27 PM

And a hearty welcome from me as well! Glad to have you join the Squad!

Like Duke said, any questions or assistance needed, you will have no problem finding answers if you post your issues. This is by far, the greatest bunch of forum members I have ever had the chance to interface with.

Oh, and as our dear forum member RAF_Louvert would say, the new man buys a round of virtual drinks for the forum members! Soooo, I will jump in here and order three fingers of Balvenie 16, thank you very much!
Three cheers for the new man and I raise my glass in recognition!!

Best Regards

I'm peripheral, pop in once in a while to read up...or when I break something and need help.

Can affirm what has already been said; a group not often found on the internet today.

Welcome.

.

Welcome to camp Deej, glad to have you with us! From the sounds of it you are already quite round the bend for our favorite WWI combat flight sim so you should fit right in. As Robert has most importantly pointed out, new lads buy the drinks, and to that end I'll have three fingers of the Aberfeldy 21 and a pint of Guinness on the side.

Cheers Deej, and watch your six!

Lou

Deej, Adjer, I like it that you're Guiness men! I've been a near teetotaller all my life, and never had much of a liking for beer at all, which fro a man with a much Irish as I have seems a bit odd. The I was at one of these snobby beer places with my boss, and they had nice, fresh Guiness on tap, and I found the only beer to date that I like. But it MUST be fresh, mind you!

Funny thing about Guinness. I never cared much for it. I tried it bottled and canned here in Canada, but when I was over in Ireland a couple of years ago, I had more than a few pints of it and it was quite delicious. Decidedly better than here at home. I asked about it when I was there and the reply I always got is that "It doesn't travel well" and that the "Irish water" is key to the taste. I am still perplexed by that experience.

Re: Another new WOFF member - 02/28/18 10:58 PM

Robert.. I concur with your assessment of Guiness here at home, tastes horrible...like you I managed to sample that nectre at the Guiness Brewery in Dublin a few years ago, and it was simply delicious!! Adjer I will hoist a few Guiness pints with you and a chaser of Jacks or 18 yr old Gibson’s finest Rye whiskey!! Maybe perhaps a nice Cohiba cigar to accompany said beverages. Thank you for the welcome cptroyce!!

Re: Another new WOFF member - 03/02/18 02:37 AM

Draught Guinness in Canada has come a long way since the bitter bottled export stuff back in the 60s, but you still can't touch the real thing. I once tried a draught Guinness in Portugal -- MANY years ago. It must have been sitting in the tank for a decade before I ordered it, because starting about an hour or two later. I was sick as a dog and able to poop through the eye of a needle at forty paces!!!
Posted By: Deejan

Re: Another new WOFF member - 03/04/18 02:03 AM

Lol...yes I do agree that the Guiness has improved here at home to where it was before. I can at least make the comparison from the nectre I had in Dublin and the brew here at home. I feel for you consuming the toxic brew you ingested in Portugal which made you paint porcelain from the backside From fourty paces!! I’ll heed your plight and just stick to something local when I head to Spain and Portugal this fall.

Re: Another new WOFF member - 03/04/18 02:40 AM

Hey Gents.
I’ve survived the first 10 days of bloody April 1917 with my Pup pilot from 66 Sqd. This has included: 3 balloon attacks, 3 attacks on airfields at Erchin, La Petrie, & Riencourt some escort work and sally’s into enemy territory which caused frayed nerves and a damaged Pup. I’ve been shot up 6 times, had 2 engine failures just prior to reaching German lines & have been credited with 2 Rolands, a Halberstadt, and 2 Albatros DII’s bringing my total to 8. Action, when it occurs is fast and furious! I must admit I dread the airfield attacks the most! Members of my flight have survived our sorties and we swill ale, whiskey and enjoy raucous banter during evenings in the mess! If I survive I will request some leave in England! Maybe the weather will be foul tomorrow so I can catch up on some much needed rest....and a hangover! I will continue to persevere!

Re: Another new WOFF member - 03/14/18 01:01 AM

Hello Gents!! Thank you for the welcome!! I’m usually more present in the forum but recently sold our home and now in the process of selling things we cannot bring with us, donating a lot to charity, placing stuff in storage and prepping for our move 1 May to a temporary res until our new home is finished in August. Between my post retirement part time job 3 days/ week I snatch amission or 2 after dinner. I have reached 17 April17 and came back alone from a balloon busting mission as my flight was bounced by 5 Albatros scouts. My poor Pup was riddled but the engine was working fine. I damaged 2 of the Albatros scouts, 1 trailing smoke as they headed east and I west with the controls of my Pup very much damaged. I managed to set her down, ammunition almost done, physically drained and very thirsty. Debriefing showed the whole flight of 4 survived, with a confirmed kill to our flight leader. 2 of my flight dustained injuries and have been hospitalized for 7 days. New pilots will fill the gaps for our next sortie.
Dark Canuck I will post my experiences innthe Reports from the front thread and join in on the DID centennary!
Cheers all! I am having a total blast with this amazing Sim!! Thank younfor the welcoming and words of encouragement!

Welcome fellow flyer! =) I started a Sopwith Pup campaign myself. Not doing quite as well as you but did bag a Roland CII and Halb II on 1st mission.I'm flying in 54th RFC now Jan 1917. Good luck to your continued success sir!

Re: Another new WOFF member - 03/27/18 10:28 PM

Hey Nightflyerx, thank you for The hearty welcome and congratulations on your success for nicely dispatching a Roland and a Halberstadt! Well done my friend. I seem to be flying with many a horse shoe and 4 leaf clover as in my last 2+ missions I have come out on the wrong end of twin Spandau’s! My trusty Pup has brought me home shot full of holes and rudder cables nearly unusable! I think my luck is starting to desert me, mainly due to my aggressive and foolhardiness of chasing my enemy back low and over their lines. I should know better, as I have been archied, mg’d from enemy troops and jumped by e/a returning from home patrol. I think I have used almost all of my 9 cats lives. April 1917 is just over half done and I begin the 18th of April with an airfield attack! I raise a glass to you in your continued success against the enemy and look forward to hearing from you and your exploits from 54 squadron! Cheers to you sir, and to 54 from 66 Sqdn!!

Wow, just around the corner! I work in Moncton and live on the Richibucto River near Rexton, so pass by Shediac often. Is your pilot a LeBlanc or a Cormier? Most folks in Shediac are one or the other...

Re: Another new WOFF member - 04/27/18 03:51 PM

Hey Raine! Just made it back into the forum after a weeks R&R in PV Mexico which was greatly needed! Great weather and many Cervasas were had. Just 90% completed moving our stuff to storage and ready to put the final boxes as well into storage this weekend plus give our now former home a good cleaning for the new people who purchased it, then its off to a temporary stay at my relatives home until our new condo is ready 1 August. My pilot would be of the LeBlanc relations side of the family tree. He’s still alive and kicking as of the 19 April 1917 with 10 confirmed e/a destroyed. I will be taking a 3 mont hiatus from action until 1 August. I’ll be checking in with the forum from time to time keeping current with all the extraordinary league of gentlemen I am proud to be affiliated with here in the “HQ”. Cheers for now! Deej
