Head to Head Combat

Head to Head Combat - 12/31/17 10:25 PM

Just purchased woff ultimate.
Wanted to do a HOTAS test so went to play a single mission
head to head with an AI opponent. Have tried three times now
and I do not encounter an enemy plane! Is this normal?

Hi danc,

Well it could be normal, I assume you are doing Quick Combat?
Can you post a screen shot of your QC settings?

Assuming you did have an opponent selected, if the starting distances were too far apart and the AI felt he was at a disadvantage, they do just turn around and fly home.

Do you have labels (activity mode) turned on to be able to identify the enemy from a distance?

Make sure that both yours and the enemies altitude are the same.

Re: Head to Head Combat - 01/01/18 01:26 AM

Activity mode?
Where can I get a complete keyboard map for this game?
I have an older HOTAS from saitek and it has been a nightmare
since I went to windows 7. None of my .pro files work and even if
I program "in game" it is hard to tell if the file works.
Logitech is recognized by the system but saitek can not even
find the stick.
Customer support for saitek is useless.
Sorry, a bit frustrated here.
Thanks for your suggestions.

From the main menu go into Workshops, on that page there are two buttons for keys and controllers. One will give you the default keys and the other allows you to set buttons and keys on the keyboard to whatever you want. If you remap the keys make sure you save your work or it will disappear. You can set axis on your Saitek HOTAS using the remapping functions and after you save them you wont have to worry about it again. Make sure you look over the commands carefully some of them aren't necessarily obvious.

Also use the TAC when flying, set the distance to 2.2 miles and put it on aircraft. The enemy will show up as red triangles (when close) and you see which way to turn to find them. You can also padlock the enemy and set a key on your stick to have your view point to whoever you light up.

Re: Head to Head Combat - 01/01/18 03:36 AM

Hi Danc,

As Burning _Beard mentioned there is a button in the workshop to display the default keyboard.
Here is another link (old post, don't think it as changed much if at all.)
http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3877373/WOFF_Default_Key_Guide_WIP#Post3877373

Turning on labels (L key by default) will display info on planes. After turning on, Shift-L will cycle though various modes, one of which is "Activity".

if you did not know Saitek was purchased by Mat Catz and things went downhill, Logitech recently purchased Saitek from Mad Catz and Logitech has done more house cleaning.

What Saitek HOTAS are you using?
I see from other posts you have an X52.

Re: Head to Head Combat - 01/01/18 01:36 PM

Yes you must set your flight altitude close to the enemies setting otherwise you may be to far above or below each other.
(see near bottom left and bottom right of the QC screen.

Also note there is a "distance" value too make asure they are not too far away initially. Try a setting of 2 or 3 there.

There are also copies of various documents in your WOFF install. Browse to the
WOFF\OBDWW1 Over Flanders Fields\documentation folder.

The latest version of the frequently updated WOFF UE FAQ is available on our Support page on our website.

Re: Head to Head Combat - 01/02/18 01:41 AM

I can't find how to program the fixed views using the keypad.
The "snap view" controls are not available in the game for programming
apparently. How do I assign key strokes to my stick without them being in
the list of controls shown in the game?
The keypad snap views 8,4,6 and especially 2 do not seem to be
available.

Okay, light up the command you want to program, then push the button, the command should now say Button (X). In the case of the snap views, you should be able to assign those to one of the hats on the Stick/HOTAS, select the view and then push the hat the direction, it should set the view and when you release it, it will return the cockpit front. Those hats can also be programmed as buttons which gives you 16 each..

"Okay, light up the command you want to program"
What?
The commands "snap views" is not listed when I try to program the HOTAS.
Can't "light up" whats not there smile.
These are listed as keystrokes on the official default key guide but not
on the list in the game.

Re: Head to Head Combat - 01/02/18 11:41 PM

I see what you're saying danc - snap views are not included in the list of functions that can be assigned within the game. I've never used a HOTAS so I'm no help there. The default settings on my Logitech stick already had snap views assigned to the hat switch. If I wanted to change them to other keys on the stick it seems that I'd have to do that with the Logitech controls (no idea how though) because I don't think it's possible within WOFF.

Regarding no action in Quick Combat - if you have a superior plane the AI will just run away from you. If you want to force it to fight go to the workshop settings (2nd page) and set "AI never backs down" to on.

Re: Head to Head Combat - 01/03/18 12:46 AM

In Workshops open the remap Keys/Controllers, Select Controller (Mine has Saitek Rudder Pedals, Joystick 1, Joystick 2 or something like that). Light up the thing you want to program, say Joystick 1. It will list the current bindings (Bound buttons or axis). On the left side of the screen there is a long list of selections and what they are bound to, the window right next to that is blank until you pick a specific list which is in the box named filter functions, if you select one of those filters it will pop up in that box.

When you click on one of the bound selections a reassign binding window will appear, you click unbind (if you want to) the box will disappear but you will see that the function now has nothing assigned to it. Click the function again and another box will appear, asking you to select a key, press whatever you want then a bind button will appear, poke that one and you are done, you now have an assigned function to the joystick or keyboard.

Make sure under File Functions you hit save or you will lose all the changes.

You will see in the current bindings box that the POV (hat) may already have your views assigned to it. If you are working with an X52, you have more than one POV, so you may be trying to look around using the wrong one.

Re: Head to Head Combat - 01/03/18 04:29 AM

The only pov1 hat that is recognized as such is the first hat on my joystick.
The second pov is assigned buttons that can only be changed to available functions (no snap view).
The third pov (on my throttle) is also assigned buttons etc. etc.
I have noticed that the rear view (keypad 2) is really a look down view anyway (useless).
I have decided that the default pov1 is functioning as the keypad.
Interesting that the old mode switch on my HOTAS is now useless...........
I used to be able to make a profile (Saitek profiler) that allowed me to assign the same button to
three different functions by switching my mode (1 thru 3). Seems to be lost now as building a profile
with the logitech app. does not automatically transfer to the game as it did before. Maybe I am
missing something here.
Thanks for your help.
I am loving the game at high res on my system.
