Two-seater questions - 09/24/17 06:47 PM

I think I've gotten my sudden mission end issues sorted, time to actually fly now. I'm flying a DFW CV in Feb 1917, and my observer is extremely reluctant to shoot, which is very detrimental to my well-being. I understand that it won't work if I'm tossing and turning all over the sky, but the limits seem extremely strict, to the point where in three engagements with enemy Nieuports he hasn't fired once, even when I'm flying level as they approach to catch me before I maneuver to save myself.

Is there anything that can be done on this? I think I'm going to make all observers in my flight ace-skill with the mission editor, but outside of that I'm not sure what to do. Again, I know it's unrealistic to expect them to shoot if I'm banked at 90 degrees and turning hard, but even the slightest of shallow turns seems to make them not want to shoot when the enemy is bearing down on me.

I've wondered this before as well. Enemy observers will often fire on you while they are plummeting on fire to the Earth below, so I don't know, try the ace trick I guess? Good luck!

From my experience I can only speculate that the gunner is fixated on one target which may be out of the firing arc, while others can pound him. The gunner doesn't change targets so easily, or quickly. This is why when attacking two-seaters I am usually the bait, knowing that the gunner will target me, since I'm usually in the lead. I will fly to one side and out of range distracting him, while the rest of my flight will make minced meat out of his plane without taking any hits. Perhaps the AI is doing the same thing? Distracting your gunner with one pilot, while the rest destroy it.
As to the long bursts while the plane is banked or diving, I've experienced that as well. Typically they keep shooting in one long burst until their gun jams. The gunner loses his footing, while the plane is maneuvering wildly and his finger gets caught on the trigger. That's my explanation and I'm sticking to it.
