AI Enhanced Skill Level?

AI Enhanced Skill Level? - 04/13/17 06:36 PM

Hi All,

Hope everyone is doing well. I was just looking through the workshop settings and came across an option for "AI Enhanced Skill Levels." I checked the FAQ and didn't see it referenced there.

Just out of curiosity - what does this option do? The AI is already more than enough of a handful but I couldn't help my curiosity. Does this setting ratchet up the AI to an even more realistic level, or does this give them abilities they should otherwise not have?

Many thanks for your help!

Cheers! cheers

While I don't have an answer for this question, I want to express that I too am intrigued as to what the answer is. Anyone who has the answer will be helping the both of us with this.

Thank you for the link. It's hard to find these when searching through multiple threads. Kudos for finding it.

Ace, it's easier to find these threads on Google than through the SimHQ search.

Well, that makes it easier...why didn't I think of that? haha

I have always been of the opinion that this setting is very poorly named. Despite being called "Enhanced skill level" turning it 'on' makes the AI stupider (they disregard odds), and turning it 'off' makes the AI smarter (they factor odds into their behaviour).

I will move that thread to the FAQ area on the forum. Great post from Olham.

So, hopefully activating this will stop the AI from landing at the nearest airfield whenever they see the enemy? Is that the purpose of this setting?

(I have a bit of a yellow bellied AI problem)

It's worth a shot, Ace...I know that even with it on I've still experienced the "running away" but I haven't paid close enough attention to differentiate the factor it plays

Great, I like that the AI run away when it makes sense to do so but the landing thing is a bit over the top.

As far as I can tell, the AI will run away and land if the planes in your flight are superior to the AI's planes (superior in quality, not quantity). I think that the "AI enhanced skill level" setting deals with the numbers of planes in each flight (is it 2 vs. 10?).

The most effective way to eliminate the running away tactic is to set "AI never backs down" to on. Doing so will result in long, drawn out dogfights, which I greatly enjoy. I switch this setting on/off for variety. Having it on may well be less realistic but it's a lot more fun if you love extended dogfights, while still being engaged in a historically accurate campaign.

Thanks for the info, looks like I might just put them on never backs down too, the landing really bugs me.
