Citizen Con 2017 - 10/27/17 09:17 PM

Citizencon was today. The presentation was pretty good actually. This is the presentation they needed for gamescom. Mostly no bugs and shows off how big they want their sandbox game world to be. This was really cool to watch. Gameplay starts at 24 min in

Nice, for the 1st time in a long while they've managed to convince me again that they're actually capable of doing an open world where all of these new features they previously teased can fit all together. Colour me a tad more optimistic again!

Ditto, been waiting far to long for this.

OK, I watched most of the video, but it was very long and did not show anything more than flying around a very lovely and large open world. It reminded me of the string of "updates" that No man's Sky showed periodically.

A lot of flying around but not much, if anything at all to do!

How do people feel about SC in general, is it going to be the next big thing?

I have been toying around with replaying FS2, and checking out Evechron Galaxy while waiting. I know I am in a very small minority wrt Elite Dangerous, etc. Cannot get into them at all. Much to steep a learning curve.

Star Citizen looks like it could be good but I do not need to waste money on another Elite.

Dunolde, I'm not sure the game is for you. The complexity of flying is about on par with Elite and if you didn't like that, you probably won't like this. Besides, there's a ways to go before it's actually out. The 3.0 patch that will be coming out soon (that's a Chris Roberts soon, so who's knows when) will add more, but it will still be an early version with only a single system and some missions.

There's no harm in waiting, unless you really want to jump in on really early builds and do testing. Also, there's some freefly weekends they do periodically that will let you demo what they currently have. Just keep an eye out.

I'd suggest to anyone who is on the fence to just hold off. It's still early and there's a ways to go before it gets released.

As for me, I'm stoked and backed a long time ago. Cannot wait for 3.0 to do some more fooling around in the 'verse. But then I'm crazy and probably not the best person to be listening to.

There is absolutely no reason to buy into SC right now. I'd wait for 3.0 and beyond before even considering it.

The benefit of SC over most other space games is that you are a person in the game and not a ship. That is hard to explain but take elite for example. You first spawn in as a docked ship. you never leave the pilot seat. For all intents and purposes you ARE the ship.

What really draws me to a game like SC is that even if the ship is going down you could always bail out and explore on foot etc. But the game is a LONG way from being playable. Right now it is just a empty sandbox that isnt bery big. Soon it will be an empty sandbox that is slightly larger lol.

But the finished game has potential if they actually are able to follow through with it.

I wanna steal ships and maroon players on planets when they talk back and refuse to cooperate with their... taxes. I don't think the game is there yet, though, and the combat flight model is abysmal... looking at you mouse aim interactive mode.

Problem is everything is just point and click these days, War Thunder, World of Warplanes, the new Battlefront games.

Yep. Dumb games that aren't worth my time.
