MS FFB2 Trim?

MS FFB2 Trim? - 03/03/14 02:27 PM

I've set the trim switch on my MS FFB2 stick to act as the trim button for A10C, however, when I use it it has no effect unless I hold nose down trim in which case the aircraft starts a descending right hand dive.

I've checked and double checked the key assignments and when I use the trim switch in the A10C settings window it triggers the correct response as expected.

Any ideas?

Which trim command are you trying to map to your stick?

There are four commands in the trim switch = nose up, nose down, right wing down, left wing down.
There's also the Set Takeoff Trim command, which corresponds to the button on the left panel near the SAS switches.
There's also a Reset Trimmer command, which I'm not entirely familiar with except that it completely dorks my controls if it is inadvertently mapped to my mic-switch up.

I'm not aware of a single "trim button" on the A-10C.

It seems like a bug to me. I'm talking about the four trim commands for nose up/down and right/left wing down.

The actual control action in the sim seems to be 90 degrees out ie

When I push the hat up on my joystick it should cause the nose to trim down but it causes a roll to the right ie right wing down and so on:

Hat up = roll right
Hat right = nose down
Hat down = roll left
Hat left = nose up

I've solved my problem by just mapping the hat press to the relevant command in the key assignments but it is confusing and is clearly wrong - maybe just a error in the key assignment documentation.

Interestingly, the in game joystick hat movement graphic and the controls indicator agree with the relevant key presses according to the key assignment in the documentation so I press the hat up on my joystick to trim the nose down and the aircraft acts accordingly but the graphic of the joystick hat and the small diamond in the controls indicator show a move 90 degress out to the actual movement of the aircraft!

Go figure.

That does sound bizarre. Wish I had an FFB stick to test it out with you. Anybody have a spare they want to send my way? wink

Actually it's not the joystick. It's the key assignment. You should be able to replicate by using 'RCtrl+;' to trim the nose down. What will actually happen is the right wing will go down causing a roll to the right.

As it's 90 degrees out I wonder if it's a bug to do with the Huey being added to the series. A 90 Degree discrepancy in control expected behaviour could be something to do with gyroscopic precession?

Clutching at straws maybe but who knows?

My trim button assignments all work exactly as I expect them to - no 90° misalignments.
