Inside/outside view

When I'm flying and go to the outside view, I can't get back inside my cockpit for the inside view. I know F1 is the normal inside view and I've tried that but it doesn't work once I go to the outside view. I've clicked every button on the keyboard and I've never been able to figure this out!

In any case re-check if in Controls > View > "inside View" is set for F1.

Yes F1 is set for the inside view.

I'll do some experimenting to see exactly what it is I click just before I experience this issue.
