Trim Wheel device - 04/20/14 05:50 PM

I see a Saitek trim wheel controller on Amazon. For those in the know, is this a straight forward plug and play device and will it work in any sim that recognizes device axis or is it only compatible with FSX?

Is it worth it? I'm getting back into my prop sims and we know they can be touchy so I though it would be nice to have a large control designed just for trim that's easy to access.

Thanks.

Is a axis - with optical encoder like mouses - seen as game device by Windows (see at 0:10 in the video below) so work for any game that have trim on axis. BTW - On "Alpha" il-2 Bo$ only for Bf 109 elevator...

I got one for Christmas and I absolutely love it. I can hand fly just about any GA aircraft with this trim wheel. Before I got it I used the hats on my Cougar and Pro Yoke. With the trim wheel I can finesse the aircraft. The modular design allows you a lot of mounting flexibility, too.

Sounds good. Does the full range of the wheel's motion directly equate to precise adjustments? Meaning, does slowly sliding wheel up or down provide fine tune finessing of trim?

Watching that video I think answered my question. cool

Can one be mounted horizontally for use as an aileron trim?

Of course, but you need do some "V" support to fit then in this position (turned 45 degrees).

Look at side picture: http://uk.hardware.info/productinfo/160449/saitek-pro-flight-cessna-trim-wheel#tab:photos

The clamp is removable.

Or use horizontally:

In this video the guy fit upside down, with a wood support.

Very cool. Thank you for the video. Clever designs and adapters there. I just recently bought my first Saitek throttle quadrant.(just one) Looking forward to hooking it up tomorrow. I have a feeling the trim wheel will be coming soon after. beercheers

Thanks for all of the info everyone.

Sokol1 covered all the bases. :-)

Coot, you will not be disappointed with the trim wheel. Since I got mine I found that I have a lot more fun hand flying my GA aircraft. In the past I would turn on ALT Hold to maintain altitude. With the trim wheel, I can set my desired rpm then fine tune my pitch and essentially fly hands free until I hit turbulence of course. It also works wonders on approaches, where I can dial in trim and simply focus on throttle to control my descent.

Enjoy yours when it arrives.

Cheers,
