You know, Graviteam is amazing in that their environments have managed to capture something I don't feel that either of the Theatre of War or Combat Mission games have.
The cold, unforgiving desolation that served as the basis for many battles on the Eastern Front.

Excellent screenshots.
Thanks Gargantou.
I have played TOW and Combat mission games, and Achtung panzer is absolutely the best.
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 01/15/1202:03 AM
The more I tinker with the settings and play quick battles the more I see this is a very cool, atmospheric game. Like Gargantou said theres something in this game that isnt in Theatre of War and the new gen of Combat Mission.
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 01/15/1208:01 PM
Ok I admit it this is a badass game. I even heard my submachine gun squads emit a HUURRAAAHHHHHH!!!!! last night when they assaulted a German trench line.
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 01/24/1212:50 AM
I'm gonna re-install AP and read the manual on my Kindle and get some gameplay like these screenshots! I'm going to get Op Star ADDON from Gamersgate (I bought AP from D2D) and it says I need to patch the core game to v5.77, where can I find patches?
Is it ok to buy the ADDON from a different place I bought the main game? Gamersgate is the only place selling it though.

Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 06/30/1212:09 AM
How do I turn off the dots and icons over their head? I want to turn it off when I take screenshots but leave it on for when I play. The same for SABOW.
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 06/30/1209:39 PM
muhahaha.
Thats why you play as a Red Army guy. I hate tigers. But not in this DLC thank gawd.
But if you play as RED ARMY DO NOT use the allys under user control. I did because I wanted to tell the KV what to do with themselves. Ended up being too awesome and I did not get the full Krasnaya Polyana experience. Oh well.......Ill have to play it again. I really like this DLC. My fav so far for sure. One issue I have with playing as Germans on this one is that Peiper turd. Way to tempted to order German arty on his halftrack.

yeah I like this DLC too. damned, I like this game! I need to have Panther in this game (grrrrr Graviteam )
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 02/07/1312:08 PM
I like them both! But Ill be doing things with APOS GTOS or whatever till I am not. ANd I STILL like the 73 war idea....ALOT. Much better than my ACAV idea for vietnam. But early ww2 till I am sick of it. Maybe sabow will get a sequal or dlc or something? THat would get be back there in a hurry. LOL Now if SABOW supported working iron sights for MG's...............It does not right now. BUT could be faked I think. Another reason I stopped work on the m113a1 and have it AI only.
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 05/28/1301:15 AM
On the transparent windows in planes.... Pretty much all models made of aircraft in past few years have transparent windows and basic interiors. The older models from K43 do not alas. But making the stuka and il2 have them......well you might as well redo the whole plane as showing their age a bit now. Eveverything since sabow EXCEPT the mi23 have transparent windows and honestly better models. SOME day my su2 model will probably make way into GTOS or Mius. It really shows off the transparent windows IMO.
Alas as of now real world issues seem to be taking over my life.....AND my damned puter is having issues. My liquid cooler for my CPU sprung a leak and really odd other issues going on now. Little cash to do much about anything... boohoo.
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 09/15/1308:19 PM
I know what your playing Here is mine from probably the same turn. Just fought this one. Sneaky AI save a platoon of m3 stuarts and sprung them on my left flank out of NOWHERE. LOL
Using my supply platoon to ferry this infantry platoon around.
Using the bino feature here. See my opal blitz's in the background blundering into an AT gun/tank fight LOL.
I ran smack into a conscript platoon before they got used to beef up units. Took 32 POW's.
end of turn stuff... this M3 did NOT want to die. He killed 1 of my tank destroyers...damaged another...and the last ran out of ammo shooting at him. Also sent an Hq squad after him...they had 1 hh3 anti tank grenade which HIT but did not do much. =(
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 09/16/1312:04 AM
I am getting good at being Mr sneaky and getting infantry squads real close to tanks. Even with just the 6 stick nades is good enough USUALLY to mob kill the tank. That buys time to think up a way to actually kill the thing.
Cat and mouse in some trees with the Marder II's. Actually having thin armor means that the 37mm rounds will pass right threw the thing. If they do not hit anything important the tank destroyer keeps fighting. Certainly NOT good....but worked out in my favor as this guy took to hits that did just passed right threw it without doing any real damage.
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 09/20/1305:14 AM
This game is really gorgeous looking and realistic. I am very tempted to purchase it even though RTS aren't really my cup of tea. Ahhh! If only it could be played first person....Great work Graviteam!
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 09/20/1310:28 AM
do you play on "Hard" level? I just tryed a little bit on normal to watch the map and the troop compounds an had alot halftrack platoons on turn 1..(normal difficulty)
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 09/20/1312:05 PM
right now default optimal. OH but set to battle size unlimited.
Ok I need to stop with the screens....just having fun. This has a nice variety of landform. Swamp, forest, fields, wheat, towns. Mius should be quite nice as it is BIGGER and should be even more refined.
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 09/20/1310:16 PM
Ya I had just installed the released version when told about this beta. I did not even notice that. As the 1st turn for release version I choose Red Army side. I had no idea what you where talking about!
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 09/21/1302:32 AM
This one of the most intense INSANE battles I have ever had. Stukas...arty everywhere, tanks infantry, at guns...just crazy. I won but had 2 fully working medium tanks at the end. 1/2 total right offs. But better than the other guy..
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 09/22/1301:59 PM
LOL just completed turn 1st battle of RUSSIAN Shilovo DLC campaign. I turned grass settings to HIGHEST.. damned this looks good. But you pay for it in FPS. Mainly fine for me EXCEPT in certain types of grasses. The dried grass/wheat one KILLS my fps close to it. =(
Above is the new D30 howitzer added in last GTOS patch. SEXY! Makes big 122mm holes.
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 12/19/1311:22 AM
Play testing my reworked Sokolovo. Need to sort out a little balancing issue. Although frankly i found this 1st DLC a complete ball buster and was nearly shoved off the map by the mighty German steam roller. If my tweaked one works out I have an idea for the German side. That was never done by Gravi and for good reason. The forces in this battle where lop sided. In a game simply turning around and making Germans playable would be -fun. Simply roll over the Russians and Czechs.
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 12/20/1304:15 PM
It is a very beautiful game. I actually enjoy it myself but do get frustrated from time to time because it is real time and not turn based. I wish they would put in a replay system so after the battle I could watch at my leisure and not miss so much neat stuff going on. Only criticism I actually have of the game.
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 12/21/1304:50 AM
Few more from last night. On side note... Making corrections to my redo campaign and wow. AI did something totally unexpected to me. OF course it decides different courses of action each time on the over all turn map. If that makes sense. Lets just say the recon in force was 2x bigger than intended.
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 12/21/1301:06 PM
You mean Nomaghan. Its been so long I do not even remember how to spell it. That one should be quite a bit different. I love the concept will be interesting when it gets here.
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 03/09/1409:32 AM
LOL...now I fired up Shield of the Prophet since Angola just won (under my command any ways) the conflict there. Left the Cubans under AI command. They finally decided to help me out on like turn 13 of 15. Silly Cubans. I guess they where helpful on my mop up operation.
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 03/10/1411:46 AM
Crap! Somehow I forgot to GO TO FREAKEN sleep. Have to get it up in 2 hours... Usually only games new to me do this. Here have some screens.
I hate sand storms... Really dislike em.
after a year I am finally coming to grips with these 2nd generation ATGM. They are not great...they miss alot. This is the Dragon atgm. For about every 6 fired i get 1 kill of a t55 or t62.
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 03/11/1407:30 PM
The chieftan just looks sooooo out of place among that cold war era stuff although it was itself a by product of it.
Where as the T62s/T55s are totally sweet they do look 'old'. The chieftan just looks like some killing amchine that's been beamed down by ET to open a can o' whoop ass...
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 04/19/1407:34 PM
Strangely I find the fw190 to probably be the best at it. Totally dangerous to the various sorts of static guns. Followed by the po2, its slow speed seems to mean it get bombs closer its targets. The Il2 never seems to hit much. Stuka is hit or miss really. They all suck at hitting moving targets.

Sometimes being key words. It is possible but vary unlikely. Non moving half tracks and light armor they can get lucky. Mobility kills of tanks I have had often enough. Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 04/20/1411:20 AM
good!!!!! i appreciate the desginators doing this in the game!!!!!!!!!!! i read one sublime book about ww 2 aerial airstrike and its called "flying guns ww2" i think and it was million dollar to kill a tank with airplane then. great!
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 07/11/1407:44 PM
It really is a gem of a game. Its not for everyone but if you take to it...well geeeewiz, your hooked. Now on steam and gamersgate.. On gamers gate I think its still on sale.
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 07/12/1405:06 AM
Hans Ulrich Rudel destroyed 519 Soviet tanks mostly on his Stuka...He was so successful that I think he was consulted by the Americans when they designed the famous A10 Thunderbolt the worthy successor of the JU87 Stuka and Henschel H129s.
Rudel flew 2,530 combat missions claiming a total of 2,000 targets destroyed; including 800 vehicles, 519 tanks, 150 artillery pieces, 70 landing craft, nine aircraft, four armored trains, several bridges, a destroyer, two cruisers, and the Soviet battleship Marat.[1]
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 08/03/1402:42 PM
Night fight between my panzer 3 J short barrels VS kv1 heavy tanks. Had to get to knife range on the flanks to kill 2 of them. 3rd killed with off screen 105mm howitzers and a lucky shot.
Lost a lot of guys. Supporting infantry got mowed down by the KV-1s and my little light pz2's helped beat off the Soviet infantry while attempting to not get killed by the kv's. It actually worked out in the end. But extremely close fight. Night ended up helping me out a ton. No way could have pulled this off during a clear day.

No idea why he does not have his mp38 or mp40 like he SHOULD have. Or maybe he had a P38. i have no idea other than he picked up a kar 98. The other squad leader a couple trenches over picked up an mg34 somewhere. LOL. I never really notice who or when the ai pick up weapons. Only something strange like this with officers.

sory i just noticed this coment
Rudel flew not a bomber, he flew a junkers ju87G Stuka with 37 mm, this was the best flying kiler of tanks in all WW2, nothing was beter from it because two thing; it was slow flying, it had CANNONS with high velocity and penetration , the germans were best at tank hunting than any other air force at ww2 because of these, but it was only possible with air supiriority (like in easter front) to use the stukas with no problem , later they designeed different air craft beter than stuka with cannons (bombs and rocket was never used by luftwaffe in tank hunting... onl alies)
the alies used bombs and rockets, with bobm or rocket, it was a million dollar chance to kill a tank with a bomb or a rocket, the russiny later designed cluster bomb showers on the ilyushins it was very good in paper but it did not effect the germans much nor did the germans mention it's danger much, so they must have used it few times even though it was a great tank hunting tactic (many small bombs attached to airplane, drop over tanks, they will penetrate the thin roof armor and destroy the tank, many bombs means almost no miss, but still, cannon-tank hunting was much beter and deadly)
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 10/24/1503:18 AM
How where all of those kills confirmed? I mean, Allied ground attack pilots routinely reported staggering scores of tanks being knocked out on their missions, but when the territory they'd flown over was in their hands it turned out that not even 1% of what they claimed could actually be considered reliable to any extent.
Seeing as how the Germans rarely had the luxury of up close examination of the tanks claimed by their side from (conveniently) when Rudel started reporting his incredible tallies, I do doubt that Rudel was quite the tankers' worst nightmare that he and Goebbels made him out to be.
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 10/25/1512:02 AM
the reason the germans were superior was that because of these videos u see:
it was very easy and obivious for the germans with stuka cannons, slow-speed low hight fly and shoot the tanks with clear tracers and clear damage, high accuracy and destoying penetration powers by the 37mm cannons
the allies had rocket and bombs with not even 1% accuracy of the 37mm D3 stuka, the germans over claimed too especially for rudel but they were effective , the allies over claimed but they were not effective, their air assault tactics were very poor compared to germans
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 10/25/1512:10 AM
u have to remember one important thing ; direct hit was required to inflict the damage, 37mm was direct-fire projectile with long trajectory, bombs and rockets were not (bomb was throw in air, rocket was not accurate and dispersion was very high for it) the big difference was the stukas can achieve the direct hits, but the allies with rockets or bombs cannot achieve direct hits, it was 1 million dollar to get a near miss, but direct hits was rare
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 10/25/1504:28 AM
Right. But what proof is there that the 37mm cannons actually were as effective as that? The Germans had almost no chances to examine any of the supposedly many hundreds of tanks knocked out by just Rudel personally. Further, the Russians also used heavier cannons on their ground attack aircraft, and their claimed tallies have been utterly debunked since. Neither did they seem very impressed by the havoc Rudel claimed that he and his fellow Stuka pilots caused with their 37mm cannons, as they never went to any great lengths to field that caliber on their Il-2s themselves.
The issue I'm pointing out is that the Luftwaffe had practically zero opportunities to properly confirm that claimed tanks had actually been destroyed, and by the pilots who claimed them. Then there's Rudel, the unrepentant Nazi who's claims about himself are the only other source which is troubling considering what sort of a light he portrays the Nazi regime, the Western Allies and the Russians in.
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 10/25/1504:04 PM
When aircraft attack tanks it always looks quite impressive. Bits flying off, fuel tanks might get lit up, crews personal belongings doing odd things when hanging off tank, extra ammo carried externally on vehicle, etc.. But unless the thing is actually on fire it maybe a case where the crew pops out 5 minutes after air attack and is fixing the track, putting out the engine fire, and call the mechanics to bring a new engine for the tank. It seems everyone on every side claimed higher tank and armored vehicle kills than reality. Still vary useful if you mangle a tank with air craft. But even if the tank is a complete write off but the crew survived, at least for the allies it was just go draw another tank from the motor pool.
Funny. One of those above tanks looks like a Hungarian Turan. Was it strafed by a German pilot?
Re: Achtung panzer Operation star screenshots - 10/25/1505:36 PM
Hey, it really does look quite a bit like that. Wouldn't be surprised if it was, it's not like they had JTACs, JFOs, TACPs, etc. back then. A summary I heard from a British officer about Allied ground attack aircraft in Normandy was that the heart was in the right place, but they were just as likely to strafe them as the Germans.
