Janes USAF Super pro 9.4...where?

Hi all,

I just read the "second look" article about USAF and Super pro 9.4 and was wondering if anyone knew of any active download links? I know
there is that site where you have to pay for a download pass to get it but I think it's wrong to charge for something that was intended to be free. The
article itself says "best of all its free!". I realize that the article is from 2007 so I am not getting my hopes up. I stumbled upon my USAF Jewel case when going through
my son's cabinets a month ago where I still keep a lot of old software.

As far as I can remember it was available at Gulf Knight, but you had to buy some sort of online pass to download it.
Of course it might be somewhere else available on the internet (don't if it's ilegal, so I better keep my mouth shut)

Slikk put a tremendous amount of effort into Super Pro and its revisions! IIRC, he never gave GK permission to charge for the mod but GK was the only one who put up storage space to host it. Technically probably legal because it is a site membership, not a fee for Super Pro itself. In any event, you could try and find Slikk and ask about the status. A great mod by him. You have to have a copy of Jane's USAF already installed in order to install the mod. After that, you can ditch the original to save space if you like.

to matter though, I went ahead and tried to install my copy of USAF and couldn't get it to run at all. I tried the patches and the UI fix
but I can't even get to the menu screen. The second I click on the shortcut I get " this program has stopped working....etc.". Huh? It never got started!]

I searched for hours and it is absolutely nowhere but on the pay site. There are torrents for it, but they are outdated and the idea of torrents gives me
the willies. It would have been ironic to have to turn to the pirates for a free mod though! Simhq use to host downloads and I heard they were going to again but everytime
I click on the downloads link here it asks me to login again and then directs me to " there are no boards to view " message.

Don't give up entirely, IF you can get SP9.4. That is because you on't have to run the stock USAF in order to run/fly SuperPro. It is only needed in order to validate that you have a legal copy of the original. My machine won't run the stock version of USAF, but it does run the SuperPro mod! I have no idea why, but won't complain at this point.

BTW, the SuperPro mod is big - Slikk made it when CDs were more prominent, and it take more than one CD to burn it, iirc.

That is good to know since I have been wanting to get back into that sim for a while.

GulfKnight has been running this site out of his own pocket for years. The reason for the cost of joining is that so many people tore his site up and he had to keep moving it to a more secure place and the more secure it is the more it cost him. The price of the join is not much and if you like the game SuperPro 9.4 has over 1100 missions. I pesonally donated many missions to Slikk and he modified those and installed to the game format. I have been a moderator on GulfKnight for quite sometime now and we still have a good crew on board and not much of a personell problem now days. Join up and download all that is there for the money. You will have many many hours of fun and USAF is still a good game. It plays fine on XP with the XP fix that you will download with the other stuff.
Can't vouch for 7 tho as I don't know if it would play there or not.

And now time for some interesting facts.

GK claims that he couldn't distribute the files (SP 9.4 etc) through an external free upload site.That is not true.He did upload the terrain files of the game (that don't belong to him) in mediafire.So why didn't he do the same with the rest of the files,so that there would be no problem of cost?Obviously because he wanted to make a few (not so honest) bucks.




Also,he claims that he 'needed' the money for the site.The cost back then was about $10-15 a month.But he went on a two week holiday shortly after he imposed a fee for the downloads.He didn't have a few dollars for the site but he had enough money for a two week holiday? (I think he went to Europe that year!).



And in a period of a couple of years he had 'raised' a good amount of money from donations,that would have been enough to help him maintain the site without the need of the download fee.





That's more than a $1000 there!

And another thing about Slikk.This is what he said to me a while ago.He never wanted his creation to be sth that people would have to pay money for.




Bottom line?
GK can charge money for his creations but not for things that don't belong to him.The terrain files and SP 9.4 are a good example of how wrong what he does is and how illegal his actions are.

He didn't have to charge money.He chose to do it out of greed not out of need.

I can say a lot more about this topic but (at least for now) I'll stop.

I was disappointed with this thread until Cameron's post. No disrespect to Slikk, who deserves to be honored for the work he did, but if the rest of you don't like what GulfKnight did, stop being commie welfare whiners waiting for someone else to put it up for free, and do it yourself.
