Fighter Ops info/vids?

Folks have been mentioning in the F4 forum that there was a FO video released in late 2009 (i assume between October 2009 and December 2009). Apparently, it is in the download section of the FO site, but the file can only be seen by FO members (I can only see and download the two old FO vids from summer 2008)

Has anyone seen this vid? Any chance it is available somewhere on this world wide web thingummy for non-FO members?

Well, the A51 members will not leak the videos!
I can tell you, that there is nothing much to see on the videos graphic wise. There are just flight model test videos with one have a raw cockpit.
Because I´m not a fighter pilot I can`t say how realistic the FM is, though it looks damn right.

If you really want to know more about the project you may join the fighterops forums.
And despite all negativ opinions, I think they have "something" and it is NOT vaporware.

New information about the project are very rare on the A51 section to. So there is not much to discuss, only to speculate...

JEEZ..they are STILL running that scam? You realize they've been hauling money in from folks and producing absolutly NOTHING for about 10 years? Stay as far away from this outright rip-off lie as you can!

iibc, FO has only been in production for 3 or 4 years(?) by parttime folks. As many have pointed out Falcon4 was in production for sumfink like 7 years!

That been said, I still wish they would quit teasing us with the AREA-51 members-only BS. how frakkin' hard can it be to FRAPS a in-game takeoff/landing or sumfink?

A roughly quarterly plead for any cool insider info on the FighterOps game? (none of that silly "fighter-what?" or "fighterops forever" stuff...thought it is funny)

supposedly a vid was released in October 2010 to the special FO members.

not much info at the free forum site. I feel for that one guy who asked if the game was coming out this year or 2012 and he gets whaled on by the FO fans and FO production team! shameful of the FO production team (imho,ymmv)! at least they could have given him a rough idea of their progression...but I guess they get asked this question every day by newbs like myself.

What is cool for you? I bet there isn`t any cool information there YET. The last vids I have seen where just in the development environment, nothing cool for me (and for most people). I guess, when they have all parts together and really something cool to show, they will do.
I´ve lost my interest until they make an anouncement on release date.

I don't know that much about FO, but I do know it has been in development for over 6 years. I say this with confidence because I still have saved here on my work PC a SimHQ calendar from May 2005 with a completed FO 3D model of an A-10A. Since I'm sure that model took more than a week to make, I say "over 6 years."
Now as far as what THEY consider to be their real "start date" I don't know, but the simming public has been aware of it for at least that long.

It's actually been in development over 7 years I believe. My "joined date" on the FO forums is March of 2004 and I assume it had to be around in some form for at least a few months before a website was put together.

+1 Actually lost interest all together, might regain interest after it's in the bargain bin. I did the whole Area 51 access a few times and I was disappointed in the lack of new information. At least I got my Area 51 money back when I won a contest for a copy of FSX gold edition.

I keep hearing that "it will be released when it is ready" but I am always looking for more solid information.

IIRC, FO goes way back to '03. I remember it being talked about for a while (and perhaps even an older website) before the current site went up.

I recall it growing out of the G2I / BMS / Falcon.....situation.

I _think_ it was percolating on G2i's website for a while before XSI was formed.

Well they have some Las Vegas models added for 2011 so presumably they're still working on it.

Having said that, a part time crew, going for everything they want to put in it is going to take 15- 20 years

So we can all agree FO has become the DNF of the simming world. Previous record holder was F4, which was delayed I think 3 years but still was only 7 years after its predecessor.
Of course with DNF itself now due out, will we start talking about games being "the next FO" instead?

Compare Fighter Ops to TargetWare.

TargetWare took quite a while to get to a public release, then quite a while more to get to a debugged almost "polished" release.
Ultimately, it was too far behind "state-of-the-art" to attract more than a handful of people and progresses very slowly despite the promise of open community development.

Fighter Ops set much higher standards with apparently similar manpower assets. They can be honestly working on it as hard as they claim and still won't finish any time this decade If they ever release it, I suspect it will be so far obsolete that no one will care. The DCS series appears to be filling in the niche Fighter Ops hoped to capture.

I find very stupid the idea to keep interest in this project without any news to the community during several monthes.
How can you pay for a membership to such a thing!
No screens published in more than one year... and most of them are only rendered images!!!! bha!

yeah- when the genre is such a niche one w/ limited appeal, playing coy is a dumb idea.

Hoping to see it released has little bearing on whether you can realistically believe it will be!

As for it being a scam, I suppose there are 2 ways to look at it: either they knew nothing would come from this and they just were doing some renders and interviews to get people to sign up at the site and collect the $$, or they honestly believed they could and the $$ was to cover expenses for things like the programming software and PC upgrades but were just unable to do it.

So, if the INTENT was to scam, it certainly is. However, if the intent was to be legit, but in the end the result is identical to if it was planned as a scam all along (people pay but no product is ever completed), do you call it one?

I wasn't that interested even when it was first announced. All the talk about the accurate training and the t-38 put me to sleep. And A51 was just an insult.

I'm so bummed that someone else pointed out that DNF is going to be out soon. I was really hoping to make that joke. *laughs*

excellent summation I believe it started out legit and somewhere along the way the FO people crossed into 'never to be released' territory. Perhaps they realize at this point and want to now 'scam' people or are waaaaay too embarrassed with the situation of never completing FO that they are in denial (as the saying goes...'denial ain't just a river in Egypt (yeah! it is also a psychological coping mechanism! ))

There is no way in heck I would ever subscribe and pay just to get first hand looks at screenshots and all other development of software.Over the last few years I have looked at the progress on their general forum but that's it.You would have to be a fool to pay for nothing.I will believe it when its actually released.

I doubt this will ever see the light of day. If it does, it will probably be in an even worse condition than IL-2 Cliffs of Dover was. I never saw it as a scam, but the old saying "a fool and his money are soon parted" comes to mind. Having said that, I would not be surprised if the sim has been dead for a long time and they're still happy to take people's money for as long as they can...

I looked at their site a few times many, many years ago, but lost interest thinking about having to mess around in T-38s first. Didn't sound like my kind of game at that point.

Fighter Ops reminds me of 90% of planned, major mods for games. Someone gets a good idea for something, recruits a few helpers, and then within a short period of time the project has gone cold. You could almost run bets on how long the project will last.

I have to say that if people are disputing whether the FO project is a scam, then something is terribly wrong with FO. It's kind of like electromagnetism: just because you don't explicitly know what's happening on the inside, you can still tell something about the inside based on what's happening on the outside. Whether it's a scam or not, the plausibility shows just how badly things are going.

No, you see that's the role of the FO people. You need to sign up for a payment plan at Area 51 and wait for your progress updates there. Good luck Patrocles!

The problem is, back when they started FO would release info to their Area 51 members, then publicly release the same info 2-3 months later. So buying Area 51 just got you "early access". And at the time they were releasing pretty regularly (monthly, I think) developer diaries telling about what they were doing. But for the last 3-4 years or so, they have pretty much stopped releasing info to the general public. Every couple of months they'll mention that they've put some new info in Area 51, but they never seem to make it public anymore... so now the only way to get any real updates is to pay.

so FO wants flight sim fans to sign up and give them money for access to Area51? Yet, they stopped providing any info on FO to the flight sim fans in 2008/2009 to non-Area51 members. If this how you think FO should operate as a business model then I must say that it is you and FO that need the good luck!
