Birds of Steel (console) - 03/15/12 05:13 PM

for those with a 360 or a PS3... Birds of Steel has been released... and is excellent! and only 40 bucks!

More info and talk in the console forum and the screenshot forum...

Gaijin made it BTW.

Looking forward to your review Magnum.

The feedback so far for BoS is just phenomenal. If it wasn't for a cash-flow hiccup I'd have a copy of it myself.

And of course BoS is the Sim-Lite version to War Thunder so it will almost be like a little preview of what we can expect on PC. I think I'll check this out on my ps3 for sure.

uh sorry wrong.

They are 2 diff titles. Birds of steel is an arcade game with planes only, while War thunder is a war simulator where people will be able to use more than just planes in the future.
While they likely share the same engine, the main premise is different, hence the different name and that's why we are not getting a console part on PC but a totaly different game aimed at different crowd (sim people)

Re: Birds of Steel (console) - 03/20/12 11:45 PM

Now I don't know what War Thunder is really going to be, but for me... if it's strictly a MMO, then it will be one I don't get...

Now I've bought and reviewed every Gaijin game released for PC and console... well the main ones, and they have been great but also the same for both platforms... not sims, more sim lite with highest difficulty settings... but also alot of arcade elements in both PC and 360 version...

So, we will see about how much of a "sim" War Thunder really is.

Re: Birds of Steel (console) - 03/21/12 12:32 PM

[Edit: This was directed at a post several steps above.]

I've had Birds of Steel for a week. It is NOT an arcade game. The flight dynamics are quite shiphisticated and the visuals are stunning. I've never seen so much crap happening at once in a flight sim all the while running smoothly. So back to the "not arcade" comment. No the game doesn't have a clickable cockpit but neither does Rise of Flight and plenty other other titles that are allowed to keep their "sim" status simply because they have the good fortune to reside on a PC. I am happily retiring my TrackIR for a month or two while I try to gain some bit of skill at this game.

I'm impressed with the custom control option. Looks like WoP's screen. Wish I had that many buttons to assign.
Is there a way to use the 360 chatpad with them? Each one I hit just put a ? up on the board.

Maybe it's just been a long time since I played BOP/WOP, but flight seems a lot more touchy than before. Dropped sensitivity on elevators and rudder, but still seems different. Haven't gotten to try many planes yet though, and haven't used the flight stick either.

Re: Birds of Steel (console) - 03/21/12 09:39 PM

I've had a look at the demo this evening - glad to see you can customise the controls, but it doesn't seem quite as flexible as I'd like. Has anyone managed to map the rudder to the xbox triggers? It seems to recognise each trigger as a separate axis but won't let me use both. Also can't seem to remap throttle up/down to non-analogue buttons.

The default alternative pad setup is good - right stick as free look is much better than the default 'd-pad down and stick', but using the shoulder buttons for rudder is no good - it needs to be analogue!

Arcade flight model is funny - holding the rudder button results in never ending yaw with no secondary effect, you just spin and spin!

Has anyone had a go at the dynamic campaigns yet?

All I was saying is that by playing the console version of BoS we could probably get a lil taste of what is to come for War Thunder. I'm sure they share similar graphics engines, plane models, cockpits, even maps. Just look at the screenshots they look similar. I know War Thunder is going to be way more in depth and have much more going for it. I'm very excited to fly it.

Re: Birds of Steel (console) - 03/22/12 05:33 AM

Hello guys,,, I have been away during the release, I got home today and got my copy and popped it into the old Xbox,,

Bad news , Since the demo has been released it has some how messed up the Online MP for people When they fist put the game in,, THIS APPEARS TO BE ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHO GOT IT AFTER the release of the Demo.

So,
When I started the game today for the first time, It automatically dropped me from Xboxlive, and I can't reconnect while the game is running.
I tried everything I could think of and No luck.

I'm only hoping that a patch can be done quickly but This is Microsoft we are talking about here,, with their Certification process required for any patch !

Those of you that got the game on release day and started to play it before the demo's release, appear to be in the clear ? I think ?

Anyhow,,

I just wanted people to know this because IF you go and get it right now, its looking like you will only be able to play it Offline until a patch is released or the problem is somehow Solved so you can play online..

Here is the Thread on the Gaijin forums about the problem..

so offline, is the AI either as dumb as a box or rocks or dumb snipers?

Re: Birds of Steel (console) - 03/22/12 11:41 PM

Is there a joy stick controller (like I have for the PC) that works for XBOX 360? If so, I assume that you can set controls to such a stick.

Re: Birds of Steel (console) - 03/22/12 11:49 PM

AI seems scripted... theres so many planes you can't tell how good the AI is, lol... I have noticed that your flight does nothing... theres other flights helping you out, but your flight seems to be there just for you to get 4 chances, especially with mission specifics.

for 360, see console thread but Av8R-02, FLY9, and a few others.

Re: Birds of Steel (console) - 03/23/12 05:59 PM

Ok Anton (Gaijin CEO) Contacted MS and the issue I had mentioned is now fixed !
I was able to get online last night, and all is well.
I have to say for $40 there is NO BETTER flight game in the History of Console gaming.
I think it's a must purchase for anyone that loves flying.

See you all in the Xbox Skys !
Looking forward to reading Mag's review.

I wish that War Thunder had a single player component, I'd so get it.

Online only? No thanks. Battlefield cured me of that.

I stand corrected. I'm really wanting that Korean War scenario. It'd be nice to see a quick mission generator.

I hate to admit it..but this game has pulled me more to the console than any other.
I love my PC but the other room has a xbox360, recliner and 120 inch projector screen...
Im getting OLD and it feels much better relaxed in there..ofcourse I fall asleep in the recliner alot..sigh

This is a MUST have for when the kids and grandbabies allow you to play on the xbox.

Between this for flying, Naval Assault for subs and Forza 4 for racing(kinect head tracking).. The divide is getting slimmer.
one more update to the xbox systems(xbox 720?) and I might just be away from the PC for a long long time.

Well worth the admission.. AV8R-02 works with this and assignment is fine..
I must say.. in SIMULATOR mode.. good luck trying to stay there and finish this title!
Great title for a console.. give your xbox controller a chance and you will find there is a PC in that game console and its configured for fairness across the board and if a title works for you..it will work for your buddies.. With the price of one good Graphics card you can buy everything out there for an Xbox360 and be done with it.. times change... check your six...out!

BoS is one of the few XB titles I don't get board with in a week or two. The best thing about consoles and games designed for them is th eoptimization between hardware and developer. A user never needs to wondeer if the game is going to run smoothly on his rig. There is none of this garbage between nvidia and ATI. There are no slideshows.
